Please join us for a fun filled event. We will honor a business in each category voted on by your peers. The ballots will go out tomorrow via email. Food, adult beverages, hot cocoa, coffee, entertainment!

Island Lights Festival this Saturday!!!

It's time to light up Friday Harbor! Please join in as Friday Harbor lights up the tree at Memorial Park and raises a joyful sound - a fun filled evening! It starts off with an open house at the Whale Museum, then down to the Memorial Park where there will be hot cocoa sponsored by the Riptide Cafe, music by the 28 member Harmoneers from Elementary School, who will sing Christmas carols, then it's Santa's arrival to turn on the lights. We end the evening up at Brickworks for Soup with Santa, crafts with Island Rec and pictures with Santa.

Home Trust to deliver new Homes

San Juan Community Home Trust

San Juan Community Home Trust is taking delivery on two houses this week at the Jackson Beach boat landing.  Barring weather and unforeseen circumstances, they are arriving separately on two days: Wednesday Nov. 28 at 8:30 am, and Thursday Nov. 29 at 9:30 am.  While there is no official ceremony planned, the public is welcome to stop by to witness the spectacle.

Indoor Farmers Market

December the San Juan Island Farmers Market is held the 1st and 3rd Saturday from 9:30am to 1:00pm at Brickworks, on 150 Nichols Street. The SJI Farmers Market offers a diverse selection of fresh, local food from San Juan, Waldron, Lopez, and Orcas Island. It also hosts a diverse array of local food, art, crafts, and music! A community environment that celebrates local food, farms and entrepreneurs.

WaterWorks Gallery, a contemporary light filled gallery, continues to evolve as it remains dedicated to showing artists from the islands, Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. Represented artists, painters, sculptors, and jewelers reflect the area's beauty through both conventional and unusual representations.

Datapalooza from EDC Need more data and information to make knowledgeable decisions about your business or as a community legislator or leader?   Join the San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC) for their second annual Datapalooza! event, two hours of in-depth data and analysis of our economy and demographics, plus brunch and conversation, on Wednesday, December 5th, from 10 a.m. till noon on Orcas Island.

Double Indulgence: A Grown-up Event on December 6, 2018

The Whale Museum will be hosting a Night of Holiday Indulgence on Thursday, December 6th from 5 - 7 pm. Shoppers can indulge in a variety of yummy goodies & libations (donations accepted) while taking advantage of a sweet deal:  30% off in the gift shop.

The Whale Museum is hosting this Grown-up Event to give adults the opportunity to shop on their own. Whether shopping for kids, grandkids, nieces/nephews, or that someone special, this evening gives grown-ups time to shop without the gift recipient around while indulging in holiday cheer. All merchandise is 30% off. (Adoptions and Memberships are not included.)

Lunch and Bingo

Join us at the Mullis Community Center for a fun Friday afternoon. Enjoy a delicious lunch and BINGO! This is a great way to end a busy week and head into your weekend. We meet every 2nd Friday of the month. $10 will get you a home cooked meal and 5 rounds (15 games) of BINGO and a fun afternoon with other game-loving community members. Lunch is served at noon and BINGO, with LOCALLY sourced prizes, follows.

Whale Museum Seeks a Collections Volunteer

The Whale Museum is seeking a long-term Collections Volunteer. The volunteer would be involved in two projects. The first is updating the Sightings database, which involves transferring data from printed hard copies to a computer database. The second is tagging historical images. The museum recently digitized images from the early orca surveys. The volunteer will tag the images with keywords that will enable the images to be queried and used in orca identification. We are looking for someone who will become an expert in the tags and really make the project their own.
