Student Clinic Massages

Lavendera Massage

Students of Friday Harbor School of Massage are currently doing their Student Clinic Massages at Lavendera Massage, this will continue through mid April. Times are as follows; 1:30 pm Monday through Friday 3:00 pm some days Monday through Friday 5:00 pm possible Monday through Friday. Student Clinic Massage cost $35. All massage will be preformed at Lavendera Massage 285 Spring St, Call 360-378-3637 to sign up. Richard Davenport School Director.
 

IF PROJECT Presentation

Soroptimist

On January 24, SIFRI will be spearheading the screening of The If Project movie. Detective Kim Bogucki, the force behind the project, will be here to answer questions after the showing of the film. She will be bringing someone who has benefited by the project too, sharing her personal insight and experiences.
The If Project is a partnership between law enforcement, currently and previously incarcerated adults, and community leaders to build commonality, reduce misperceptions and serve as a deterrent to recidivism and future incarceration.

The Soroptimist have been fortunate to get sponsors to cover all of the presentation costs: San Juan Community Theatre - the use of the Whittier Theatre and Gubelman Room; Kenmore Air for roundtrip transporation for two; San Juan Island Inn Connection for accommodations; and M&W Auto Sales and Rental for car rental.

Attendees are asked to donate $20 pp to the IF Project.

Organ Recital January 27

St. David's Episcopal Church

Richard Lind will perform a recital of French, German, Canadian, and American organ music at 3 pm on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at St. David’s Episcopal Church. The recital is called THE MYSTICAL ORGAN, and includes organ music composed by Jean Langlais, Charles Tournemire, César Franck, Charles-Marie Widor, Johann Sebastian Bach, Denis Bédard, Olivier Messiaen, and Richard Lind.

Knowledge Worker Meeting

San Juan County EDC

EDC invites San Juan County knowledge workers to informal meetup. The EDC is working to create a knowledge worker network for islanders who work with code, data, graphics or words. Knowledge worker jobs include computer programming, editing, web design, engineering/scientific consulting, and others that primarily involve creating, manipulating, or analyzing information.

Free Plumbing Training

San Juan County EDC

The San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC) will offer free training in plumbing basics this January, sponsored by the Washington State Governor’s Strategic Reserve Fund and by the Washington State Department of Commerce. The course will be taught at the Friday Harbor High School STEM Center by Brent Huntington.

Gear Up Workshop

The Whale Museum

You are invited to join The Whale Museum for two special events in March: the “Gear Up” Workshop for marine naturalists on March 15 followed by a 2-Day (24 hour) Hazwoper Training on March 16 and 17.  On Friday, March 15, the “Gear Up” Workshop will be held at the San Juan Island Grange Hall in Friday Harbor from 10 am to 4 pm.  Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for registration.

Whale Museum Hazwoper

The Whale Museum

On Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17, Shawn Larson (The Whale Museum) will lead a 2-Day (24 hour) Hazwoper Certification Training at the San Juan Island Grange Hall, starting at 8 am each day. Hazwoper stands for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. Hazwoper Training is covered under OSHA standard 29 CFR Part 1910.120.
