Live Oak Art Center
Established in 1954, Live Oak Art Center has been a cornerstone of artistic expression and community engagement in Columbus, Texas. Originally founded as the Live Oak Art Club, the group convened in the kitchen of the Live Oak Hotel, thus adopting its enduring name.
In 1986, a transformative moment occurred with the acquisition of the Brunson Building, thanks to the benevolence of Emma Hay. This historic edifice became the permanent residence of Live Oak Art Center, providing a dedicated space for creative endeavors and cultural enrichment.
Through generous support from The Wade Family Foundation, significant milestones were achieved in recent years. In 2016, restoration efforts were directed towards the Brunson Saloon and Whiskey Warehouse, preserving cherished relics of the town's heritage. Subsequent funding in 2017 facilitated the refurbishment of both upstairs and downstairs galleries, as well as the establishment of The Courtyard Wine Bar, a welcoming space where art and conviviality converge.
At Live Oak Art Center, our commitment to fostering artistic talent and celebrating cultural diversity remains unwavering. For decades, we have proudly offered a spectrum of classes, workshops, summer camps, and exhibitions, inviting residents and visitors alike to engage with the arts and contribute to our vibrant community.
