Eileen Olson, a native of Brooklyn NY, studied at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and later at the Corcoran School of Art ,Washington , D.C. She approaches her multi-media canvases with a zest and energy that makes the process compelling to watch . “I have seen her attach a thick brush to a broomstick end and cover a canvas with the most lyrical sensitive sweeping movements that energizes into a four foot square abstract floral.......it’s all about the brush dance and rhythms. The rest is fine tuning of edges, color plays from harmony to discordant mixes and exotic textural plays. And voila, it is finished “, says one of her former critics and instructors.
Her affiliation in juried galleries, Spectrum in Georgetown, Washington, DC and Gallery West in Alexandra, VA (Awards and One -Person shows) has led her to the prestigious newly opened Lorton Workhouse Studio Art Center and Gallery. A review from the Georgetown Crier, August 03, quotes, “One of the joys of Spectrum Gallery is that you can find Olson’s haunting, not -quite abstract dream-like works.........”
Olson does not limit her subject matter as she incorporates many travel and life experiences into her work; this is neither stark abstraction nor imitative realism. “Her style is rather a refreshing point of view that causes us to inquire or investigate the art piece and contemplate” .Some artists bring serenity, but this artist engages our full attention.
Eileen Olson resides in Fairfax County, Virginia, and also Bethany Beach, Delaware. She supports the Vienna Arts Society, Virginia Watercolor Society, The Arts Council of Fairfax County, Rehoboth Art League and the Springfield Art Guild
Her growing collections are in private venues throughout the US and three continents.
