Vulcan Materials Company, based in Birmingham, Alabama, provides infrastructure materials that are required by the American economy. Vulcan is the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates, a major producer of other construction materials including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete and a leading producer of cement in Florida.
Vulcan produces aggregates, primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel, that are used in nearly all forms of construction. In particular, large quantities of aggregates are used to build roads and nonresidential properties.
Construction Aggregates
Vulcan is North America’s leading producer of construction aggregates, primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel. These materials are produced from natural deposits of various materials such as granite, limestone and trap rock. Our quarrying process typically begins with drilling and blasting the rock into smaller pieces. Next, the material goes through various stages of crushing and screening to produce the sizes and specifications desired by our customers.
Our construction aggregates are used in a number of ways:
As a base material underneath highways, walkways, airport runways, parking lots and railroads;
To aid in water filtration, purification and erosion control;
As a raw material used in combination with other resources to construct many of the items we rely on to sustain our quality of living. These include:

Construction aggregates form the underpinnings of our cities, towns and transportation networks.
