President's Corner

Stacy Beck

This past month has been busy with Ribbon Cuttings, Business of the
Month recognition, Noon Networking, and Play Unplugged program.  As I watch the chamber members serve and reach out to one another in support I am continually amazed at how much you all give back to our chamber and  community.  Today I would just like to say THANK YOU, though it hardly seems like enough.  I believe our chamber is the best
because of all of you!  If you have any suggestions on how we can better run our program don't hesitate to reach out to me with your suggestions.  I wish you all much success this summer!

Executive Director Message

Clark H. Caras

With the Chamber of Commerce for Spanish Fork and Salem we have businesses as members that feed people, cloth people, educate adults and children, landscape yards and gardens, look after the aging, make signage for communication, arrange flowers for sadness, beauty and love, insurance sales to protect our interests and possessions, heating and air control for our comfort and health and many many others we wouldn't even have the imagination to explain.

Play Unplugged Wins $25,000 Grant!

More than 192,000 people took to Facebook and cast 6.2 million votes vying to bring a $25k grant to their neighborhoods. State Farm is proud to announce Play Unplugged as one of the top 40 vote-receiving causes that will receive the grant to improve their community. Play Unplugged was the only organization in Utah to win.

State Farm Neighborhood Assist is a youth-led philanthropic program that empowers communities to identify issues in their neighborhood.  The affiliated nonprofits of the top 40 causes will each receive a $25,000 grant to create and execute a plan to address the cause. The top five vote-receiving causes were:

·        Dog Training at Prison (141,587 votes): Will create a program where inmates at a nearby jail help to socialize and train shelter dogs.

·        Cycle--Breaking (112,089 votes): Will work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, welfare dependence, and lack of education for entire families.

·        Somerset Lake Park (97,563 votes): Will revitalize public property to create the county's first family-friendly nature park for the local community.

·        Tempe Bike Corral (92,456 votes): Will provide free bike parking and a secure bike valet during special events in downtown Tempe.

·        Ruff Start Rescue (90,546 votes): Will make a significant impact to diminish the cat overpopulation crisis and the needless euthanasia that results.

The top 40 causes, representing 27 states from around the United States range from helping underprivileged kids to providing food to communities; a large majority of the causes will directly impact kids and young adults. Communities that will receive funding range in size from Gardiner, ME with a population of approximately 5,600 to New York City.

The record number of people who participated and voted in this year's program demonstrates the passion communities have to help with community issues.” said Kellie Clapper, Assistant Vice President of Philanthropy for State Farm. “We look forward to seeing the change that will happen in these 40 communities because of the Neighborhood Assist grants.”

Of the nearly 4,000 cause submissions that were received through State Farm Neighborhood Assist, at least one cause was received from every state in the United States. Then, the State Farm Youth Advisory Board, a diverse group of 30 students who are passionate about social responsibility, reviewed the cause submissions and selected the 200 finalists to be voted on. In the four years of the program 160 causes have received $4 million to enact change in their communities.

June Business of the Month

Congratulations to Cary's Designs Floral! June's Business of the month.  Cary Ludlow Hanks has spent a lifetime of perfecting the art of design and good taste. With everything from same day delivery to helping plan all things from dinners and weddings to a final passing, Cary and her staff can take you by the hand and help through the complications until the final look, feel and smell is one to be talked about, praised and remembered. Also, as an active member of the Spanish Fork Salem Chamber of Commerce and its former director Cary introduced both communities to Play Unplugged and began the road for thousands of young people to experience the most memorable summer's available!  Thank you Cary's Designs Floral for all you do! Visit them at 245 South Main in Spanish Fork.

Welcome to the Neighborhood!

Welcome to Advanced Spinal Care!

Advanced Spinal Care Reopens at Different and Remodeled Main Street Location as Advanced Wellness
What is old is new again all to the thanks of the team at what was formerly know a little further north on Main Street than it now is as Advanced Spinal Care.  The Spanish Fork Salem Chamber of Commerce was honored to help celebrate the businesses reopening in the newly remodeled former Spanish Fork Post Office at 205 North Main Street with a ribbon cutting on May 21, 2015.
Drs. Brent Wall and Steve Davis, D.C., were formerly located at approximately 700 North Main, and for the past several months have overseen the remodel of the old Post Office building and seen it turned into one of the most state of the art wellness facilities along the Wasatch Front. The clinic is home now to Advanced Spinal Care, Synergy Physical Therapy and Limitless Athletics.
The May 21st open house was kicked off with the traditional ribbon cutting on the front steps of the Main Street building and continued inside with SFC17 and demonstrations of how much of the new equipment and exam rooms in the building are put to use. Those in attendance were treated to free waffles and toppings from Waffle Love.

2015 Champions Challenge Rodeo

Champion’s Challenge Offers Chamber and Area National Exposure

For the second year in a row a sellout crowd gathered at what is becoming Spanish Fork’s nationally acclaimed rodeo arena to watch the world’s top cowboys and cowgirls compete in the Champion’s Challenge Rodeo, sponsored by Justin Boots; but were there also to cheer on the many locals who were there to compete in the Challenge.

As with last year’s event, this year’s Champion’s Challenge was broadcast nationally June 7th on CBS Sports and offered incredible views of the area and exposure in signage to a great number of the Spanish Fork Salem Chamber of Commerce members.

The Chamber used the premiere event to say thank you to many of our newest Platinum and Presidential members, as well as using it for a shout out to several individual members who have gone the extra mile with volunteer opportunities with committee assignments. Invitations were extended to several businesses being invited to look into chamber membership, with an outcome that was positive.

As a chamber we want to give a shout out to Steve Money and his crew at the Fairgrounds and the arena for the incredible opportunity we are given through Parks and Recreation to see an event such as the Champion’s Challenge hosted in our community.
