Governor Declares Nov. 27 ‘Small Business Saturday in Utah’
Utah Pulse.com November 23, 2010 Governor Gary R. Herbert has officially declared Saturday, November 27th as “Small Business Saturday in Utah” in support of a national initiative to encourage consumers to shop and spend at small, locally owned merchants on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. More than 90% of Utah’s companies are classified as small businesses. In issuing this declaration, Governor Herbert is again recognizing the key role these Utah businesses play in job creation and fueling the state’s economic development engine. “We’re all aware of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but it’s time that we all learn a new phrase – ‘Small Business Saturday,’” Governor Herbert said. “This effort started in New York City with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and American Express, and I’m happy to embrace it right here in Utah. We should, first and foremost, promote and support our local businesses. My challenge to every Utahn is to buy local this Saturday, and throughout the holiday season.” “Utah’s Own” has studied the effect of buying locally. The studies show that for every dollar spent on local products, between $4 and $6 is pumped into sustaining employment, lowering taxes and supporting lifestyles and the state’s heritage industries. “Over 60% of the nations jobs are held by people working in small business, in Utah that number is even higher at 80%,” said Spencer P. Eccles, GOED executive director. “As a businessman, I recognize the challenges faced by business owners in our cities and towns, and it is especially appropriate to demonstrate our support for the jobs they create by making an extra effort to do business with them.” read more... Come to Tabitha's Way for help! Wendy Osborne has food, clothing and small household items to give to needy residents. She is looking for volunteers and donations to help fund her nonprofit, all volunteer, christian thrift store and food pantry. She has lots of coats and warm clothing, plus canned food and non perishable foodstuffs. She hopes that residents who are in need will come for assistance. The outpouring of love and generosity is humbling and heart warming. Spanish Fork is the best when it comes to helping the needy. Let's all remember it is better to give than to receive! Tabitha's Way is located at 185 N Main around back of the building. Enter the back parking lot and look for the purple trim and sign!
