President's Corner
Lance Wilson
Hello and Happy New Year fellow chamber of commerce members! As your new chamber president I am pleased to introduce myself and express my gratitude for this opportunity to serve. 2016 will be my sixth year of service on the chamber board including last year where I was privileged to work as vice president with last year’s president Stacy Beck. How fortunate I was to watch and learn from Councilwoman Beck and see her lead our chamber in a challenging and exciting 2015. I come to you with 14 years of experience as a business owner and entrepreneur operating as a State Farm Insurance Agent since 2002. I am very blessed to pursue my dreams as a small business owner in the city I grew up in and am now raising my family. I hope to use my experiences in the business sector and passion for Spanish Fork and Salem communities to further the impressive work of our chamber of commerce. As I embark on this New Year 2016 it is my hope and commitment to continue to help make each member of our chamber of commerce a participating and prosperous individual, business and community. Please join with me in working to live up to the motto, “Home of Pride and Progress”.

2016!!!!
Get ready…
Get set…
Go!!!!!
Truly, those are the words that come to my mind when I think of the past 365-plus days I’ve been in this position and visualize what is going to happen in the coming year. The Spanish Fork Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is easily the fastest growing chamber in the state of Utah – and yes, I’m a former journalist; so once it’s been written and it appears in black and white, or a nice pantone, its true!
This growth is easily a reflection of the business climate, customer service being given in commerce, success of events sponsored by the chamber for people of all ages, a successful Utah’s Own Farmers Market, recruitment by the City Fathers of both communities in locating new business here, and the rural hominess still left in the other areas of the chamber; and yes, by the networking and proof in the pudding of the chamber members who have been here and the staff support given.

January's Business of the Month
Clark H. Caras
It seems fitting that a business 120 years old and a success story a book might be written about is 2016's first Business of the Month, but that's exactly what was celebrated Tuesday, January 12th at noon with festivities at the Spanish Fork branch of Central Bank, 1 North Main Street. Approximately 45 chamber members and guests enjoyed cake and networking and a look at this, the first Business of the Month for the New Year.
Active always in the Chamber, and recently moving i ts membership up into the Platinum Level, Central Bank joins more than 30 other businesses in giving back to the community in that category, which is very similar to the way the bank became active in helping its community in Springville in 1891 to establish the Springville Banking Company.
That bank expanded gradually until in 1924, the bank was active in helping to bring the Columbia Steel Mill to the site between Springville and Provo, which over the years has been the workplace of many a Spanish Fork breadwinner.. In July 1966 the Springville Banking Company merged with State Bank of Provo to form the bank, Central Bank and Trust. Since that time the bank has grown to include 10 locations in Central Utah, with one of the largest here in Spanish Fork at 1 North Main, Spanish Fork, which means you could say the bank is the first business in Spanish Fork, at least by address.
Glen Roach, is the VP Manager, along with Nic Jones assistant manager, and Matt Simonsen, officer. Nic serves on the Chamber board and is the chairman of the chamber’s Finance Committee. Thank you to SF17 for filming, and to Macey's for the beautiful cake!
