In an effort to provide more information to all members, the SCED is rolling out this new electronic newsletter which will be emailed once a month.  The purpose of this correspondence is to share work that is being done by the SCED staff along with business relevant news, tips and ideas.

The Friday morning e-newsletter that you also receive will continue as it is sent to a larger distribution list of interested subscribers to learn about area events and happenings.

If you have business related information that would would help SCED member businesses increase sales, expand, decrease costs or improve business systems, etc. please submit articles to info@sullivanchamber.com or director@sullivanchamber.com no later than the 25th of each month as this newsletter will be sent on the first business day of the following month.
 

No Job Left Behind Still Moving Forward

The No Job Left Behind initiatives continues to do great things in the Sullivan area.  The group has grown to almost 140 people and includes educators, businesses, workforce development, economic development and community members who are working to introduce students to career options with a manufacturing focus to area students.  Of few of last year's accomplishments include:

Census Bureau Releases New Tool to Help Small Businesses
U.S. Census Bureau has released Census Business Builder: Small Business Edition, a new tool that allows business owners and entrepreneurs to easily navigate and use key demographic and economic data to help guide their research into opening a new business or adding to an existing one.
The Census Business Builder was developed with user-centered design at its core and incorporated feedback from customers and stakeholders, including small business owners, trade associations and other government agencies.

A New Way of Adding Overnight Rooms to Sullivan

These days many people are using non-traditional sources to rent private homes while on vacation.  Some are finding that price and quality often equal a wonderful bargain with more space and amenities than traditional rooms for the same price or less.  Websites such as Airbnb, VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner) and HomeAway exist for homeowners to list personal properties for overnight rentals.

Moultrie County Local Purveyor Guide & Coupon Book

You may have noticed a new coupon book for sale at the IGA and some of the local shops.  The “Moultrie County Local Purveyor Guide & Coupon Book” is a new venture created by the Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development to celebrate and promote our local entrepreneurs and producers.  Inspired by a book called “Edible Louisville”, our guide provides stories of many local business owners and coupons that more than make up for the $5 cost of the book.
