Grady EMS has a strong presence throughout Georgia providing 911 services to the City of Atlanta (Fulton County), Baker, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Brooks, Clay, Decatur, Hancock, Mitchell, Pike, Quitman, Randolph, and Worth Counties. Grady EMS, the hospital-based emergency care component of Grady Health System, has continuously demonstrated its commitment to public service by providing advanced life support, emergency ambulance services to any citizen or visitor transported within the areas they serve regardless of social, political or economic status for 125 years. This service, which began in 1892 with one horse-drawn ambulance, now staffs more than 700 personnel and maintains a fleet of more than 200 ambulances and support vehicles. Our 911 operation uses ALS and dedicates these units to emergency transports only. We use a separate division to transport non-emergency calls ensuring that our 9-1-1 fleet is available and in service where and when they are needed, responding to emergency calls. As a hospital-based, trauma center EMS, Grady's operational standards must function in compliance with standards as defined by The Joint Commission, the American College of Surgeons, and the Georgia Department of Community Health. This is an important distinction and holds our EMS division to the highest standards ensuring a compliant, ethical, and confidential operation.
