60 Years Ago - August 28, 1960
"Grady Benson, Jr., of Sumner received his Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from the University of Georgia on August 18. He, with his wife and small children, Rhonda and Maylon, are now visiting here, but will leave about September 15 for employment with the Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Company of Counce Tenn. Mr. Benson's particular assignment will be announced later.
Four Worth County 4-H'ers left on Tuesday for Atlanta where they are competing on the state level in the Georgia 4-H Club Congress, having already won on a local and district level. Among them are Nancy Gunter, Venice Dupree, Gary Moore, and Raeburn Park. They were accompanied by Mrs. Rosalyn Sumner, home agent and Joel Gunnells, agricultural agent.
Mrs. Garland C. Dupree and Mrs. Sara Elizabeth (L.D.) McConnell of Sulvester represented Worth County in the second term of the summer quarter at Georgia State College for Women which ended Friday, with a total of 340 students enrolled."

Georgia Peanut Festival Updates
For over 50 years, the Georgia Peanut Festival has been a premier event in Southwest Georgia. This year, due to growing concerns for the safety of our visitors, volunteers, and vendors, the committee has made the difficult decision to cancel ALL activities planned for the remainder of the year. The decision to cancel was not made lightly or spur of the moment. The committee has closely monitored information from the Governor, our local health department, and other entities for several months. Please know that while our hearts are saddened for 2020, we are also excited to begin work on next year’s festival. Please plan on joining us in October 2021.
