Going Green Commitments
- In small ways, IST is trying to reduce its ecological footprint.
- As HVAC units are replaced, we have installed the most efficient units we can afford. We also pack walls and ceilings with high density insulation batts to reduce heating/colling loss.
- We are replacing traditional toilet flushes with dual-flush systems which use significantly less water.
- We are evaluating a greywater system to re-use handwashing water to flush toilets.
- We greywater two drinking fountains, and intend to do so to two more this year.
- We have installed a solar tube to obviate the need for daytime interior electrical lighting. If the solar-tube works as claimed, we plan to install more.
- We have six solar panels to install as soon as we find an installer who can provide a turn-key service at an affordable price!
- We have planted 18 trees to provide shade, cool and humidify the surrounding area and contribute to reducing the "heat island" effect of buildings and pavement. We plan to plant at least six more.
- We are in discussions with two groups on installing rain-water capture systems.
- At IST we strive to instill a sense of global citizenship in our students and we strongly feel that this includes a dedication to being good stewards of the planet.

Spanish Playgroups now forming at IST! (12/31/69)
Also known as "Mommy & Me" (Daddies welcome!). IST Play Groups are for ages 6 - 36 months, are held on Monday mornings and last for around 45-minutes. Games, music, movement and exposure to Spanish! Play Group leader Sra Thania Paucara Stoner is a native Spanish speaker from Bolivia, and joined IST this year.

About Us
The International School of Tucson (IST) offers an internationally-based and grounded language immersion Preschool and Kindergarten as well as a Junior (elementary) School bilingual programme of instruction in Chinese, French, German, Spanish and English. In addition to our high academic standards an international faculty ensures that languages are taught by native speakers who also transmit their cultures, values, information and beliefs.
