The Workforce Development Board (WDB) is a 41-member, business-led body whose members are appointed by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to shape and strengthen local and regional workforce development efforts. The WDB brings together leaders from business, economic development, education, labor, community-based organizations, and public agencies to align a variety of resources and organizations to enhance the competitiveness of the local workforce and support economic vitality in our region.

The County of Contra Costa, California is one of the nine counties in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area. It is the ninth most populous county in California, with its population reaching approximately 1,051,677 as of January 1, 2008.

The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County promotes a workforce development system that meets the needs of businesses, job seekers, and workers, to support a strong and vibrant economy in Contra Costa County.
Preparing Workers for 21st Century Economy
The WDB provides job services, including programs to help workers gain the skills they need to compete and to develop a highly trained and technical workforce to meet industry and business demands. Through Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding, the WDB has invested and leveraged more than $2,000,000 in training dollars this year to fund programs in high-demand occupations in healthcare, green building, and project management. As a result of these efforts, more than 1,000 workers have gained academic and vocational skills and more than 250 have been placed in jobs at average starting wage of $19.66 per hour.
