Be Informed & Advocate! 2018 Session Wrap-Up

2018 Session Wrap-up
Thursday, July 26, 2018
Fairfield Inn
1125 East County Road E, Vadnais Heights

Guest Speakers
Paul Gazelka, Senate Majority Leader
Chuck Wiger, Senator Chuck Wiger (District 43)
Your Chamber has scheduled a legislative session wrap-up with guest speakers, Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka and Senator Chuck Wiger. While the White Bear Area communities were able to secure bonding for number of worthy projects, the important tax bill was vetoed by the Governor. There needs to be a special session in order to pass a tax bill that is compatible with the federal tax law. It’s important to advocate for a tax bill approved that will be passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor.

This will be your opportunity to informally talk to our local elected officials and network with other business people. The event is free to attend and a full continental breakfast will be served. Space is limited and registration is required HERE.

Driverless Taxis in White Bear Lake

August 1st, 11:30am - 1:00pm
Key's Cafe Upstairs Conference room
2208 4th Street, White Bear Lake

Guest Speaker
Frank Douma, Director, State and Local Policy Program
Master of Urban & Regional Planning Coordinator
Driverless Uber service is now a mainstay in Pittsburg, PA, Las Vegas, NV and Boston, MA. Within our neighboring states, Iowa Cita, IA and Madison, WI have begun the process to bring driverless vehicles to their communities. In the near future, this revolution in transportation options could become standard practice in many Minnesota communities.

During the luncheon, we will discuss the potential for bringing driverless taxi services to downtown White Bear Lake. During the meeting, we will hear about the opportunities and the challenges for this transportation innovation and welcome your thoughts and questions.

The only charge for this program will be the cost of your lunch. Seating is limited and your registration is required HERE.

Rethink Recycling

WHY RECYCLING SAVES MONEY
Garbage bills are complicated. What do all of the numbers mean, and how does recycling fit into the picture? There are three main factors to look at when thinking about your garbage:
    How many dumpsters you have
    How big your dumpsters are
How often you have your dumpsters serviced
Sometimes, bigger isn’t better when it comes to dumpsters. Having a huge trash compactor that you rent from your hauler and only empty a couple of times a year can be far more expensive than having a smaller dumpster serviced on a monthly basis. Even if you aren’t filling the compactor, you are paying lots of taxes on the rental fee. Click HERE to read more about saving money through a recycling program.

Remember to Recycle!
