Dear Chamber Members...

Attention Chamber Members

As we move into 2013 your Chamber of Commerce will work diligently to provide a wide array of networking opportunities and advocacy efforts to promote both our members and
the general business community.

This month for example, we have our Inaugural / Annual Meeting Luncheon scheduled for January 22nd at  North Oaks Golf Club. Our featured guest speaker is Will Steger, the famous Arctic and Antarctic explorer.  Steger is the only person to successfully walk across the vast, frozen, unexplored continent of Antarctica. You will want to attend this White Bear Area Chamber premier event.  Registration begins at 11:30 am followed by lunch, introduction of new Board officers and program. Cost is $35 per person.  Please RSVP maureen@whitebearchamber.com or online.

On Wednesday, January 30th,  Mike Ciresi from the law firm of Robbins Kaplan Miller & Ciresi will join us to discuss the law suit against the Department of Natural Resources on the White Bear Lake level. One of the prominent sponsors of the program is the Saint Paul Association of Realtors. Registration will take place at 11:30am at Manitou Station with lunch and program going from 12:00-1:00pm. Cost to attend is $15.00. RSVP your attendance to maureen@whitebearchamber.com or online.

Finally, let me know if you would like to schedule a visit from one of our newly elected legislators to your business. Please call me at 651-429-8593 or e-mail tom@whitebearchamber.com.

What you will learn:
• What is fraud?
• The hidden cost of fraud.
• How fraud affects you and your organization.
• Why employees commit fraud.
• How to detect fraud:  Identify the “Red Flags”.
• Actions that can help reduce losses.
• What to do if you suspect fraud.

Featured Speaker
Will Steger, Arctic Explorer

Will Steger is a prominent spokesperson for the understanding and preservation of the Arctic and has led some of the most significant feats in the field of dogsled expeditions. He had the first confirmed dogsled journey to the North Pole (without re-supply) and the longest unsupported dogsled expedition in history during an historic 3,471-mile International Trans-Antarctic Expedition –  the first and only traverse of Antarctica.

Steger co-founded the Center for Global Environmental Education (CGEE) and established the Will Steger Foundation. He joins Amelia Earhart, Robert Peary, Roald Amundsen and Jacques-Yves Cousteau in receiving the National Geographic Society's John Oliver La Gorce Medal for accomplishments in geographic exploration.

Successful goal setting is a key component to structuring a successful business. There is much to learn from Will Steger when it comes to goal setting. Imagine the complexity, planning and goal setting that went into Steger’s trek across the Antarctica.
