Scott Mueller, owner of Mueller Memorial and the Chambers incoming Chairperson of the Board, was appointed to a special sub - committee under the jurisdiction of the White Bear Lake Conservation Board, to recommend solutions to the curtail the plummeting White Bear Lake level. This issue is a top priority of your Chamber. We will advocate for a comprehensive approach that includes the business community as a partner in finding a solution.
The Saint Paul Board of Realtors and the Chamber have scheduled a meeting with Mike Ciresi who is a partner in the law firm Miller Kaplan and Ciresi. The Ciresi law firm has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Natural Resources to come up with a solution to restore the White Bear lake level. While the White Bear Area Chamber has no relationship with the lawsuit, we believe it is important to be aware of how this legal action might impact business operations in the White Bear area. If you are interested in hearing Mike Ciresi, he will be at Manitou Station on January 30th for a noon lunch with registration at 11:30am. Cost to attend is $15.00. Tuesday, January 22nd 11:30 am North Oaks Golf Club 54 East Oaks Road Featured Speaker Will Steger, Arctic Explorer Will Steger is a prominent spokesperson for the understanding and preservation of the Arctic and has led some of the most significant feats in the field of dogsled expeditions. He had the first confirmed dogsled journey to the North Pole (without re-supply) and the longest unsupported dogsled expedition in history during an historic 3,471-mile International Trans-Antarctic Expedition – the first and only traverse of Antarctica. Steger co-founded the Center for Global Environmental Education (CGEE) and established the Will Steger Foundation. He joins Amelia Earhart, Robert Peary, Roald Amundsen and Jacques-Yves Cousteau in receiving the National Geographic Society's John Oliver La Gorce Medal for accomplishments in geographic exploration. Successful goal setting is a key component to structuring a successful business. There is much to learn from Will Steger when it comes to goal setting. Imagine the complexity, planning and goal setting that went into Steger’s trek across the Antarctica. Registration begins at 11:30am. followed by lunch and program from 12:00-1:30pm. Scholarship The White Bear Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund is accepting applicants for its 2013 White Bear Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship to be awarded in March 2013. The Chamber will award a minimum of two $500.00 scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded to the candidate who best fulfills the criteria listed on the application. LOOKING FOR THE BEST OF... The White Bear Lake Magazine is looking for the Best of White Bear Lake in a readers' survey and encourages all of you to vote. The survey consists of 30 categories including Best Breakfast, Best New Shop, Best Boutique, Best Dentist, Best Park, Best Kid-Friendly Restaurant, et al, and the voting is all done online. It's a terrific way for our local shops, businesses, professionals, etc., to get the recognition for a job well done. Voting concludes on February 28 and then the votes are tabulated, ensuring all voting criteria has been met. Sometime this spring the top 3 will be announced. The Best Of winners will be included in the July issue, with the first Best of 2013 event sometime late June where the winners will be announced; this is a terrific evening of food, entertainment, fun and celebration, as the winners are recognized and given awards. Last year's events were all very well attended and people commented on how much fun they had.
