One defining reason for the existence of the Chamber is to unify the local business community around a common set of principles. One of these principals is to encourage our elected officials to adopt pro-growth business friendly policies. We believe in the old adage that “a rising tide lifts all boats”. Limited taxes on business ultimately leads to sustained job growth which in turn produces a healthy balanced budget.
At our Government Affairs meeting tomorrow we have invited the new Minnesota Senate Majority Leader to meet with our local business community. He will hear how the proposed business to business sales tax will impact profit margins. If you are an attorney, architect, insurance sales, auto repair, hair stylist / barber, CPA etc., the new business sales tax will require you to charge a sales tax. When we have these types of sessions, it is important to show up. If you don’t attend, elected officials can assume you really don’t care about the proposed expansion of the sales tax. With one party in control of both houses and the Governorship; it’s important to remind our elected officials that elections take place every two years and they shouldn’t overreach. The Government Affairs Committee meeting will take place at Key’s Cafe in downtown WBL tomorrow, February 19th . The business meeting runs from 11:30-12:00 followed by the session with Majority Leader Tom Bakk from 12:00-1:00pm. Please RSVP the Chamber maureen@whitebearchamber.com if you plan to attend. Also, this Friday, February 22 members of the business community are invited to a roundtable discussion with area legislators Senator Roger Chamberlain, Representatives Matt Dean and Linda Runbeck. The objective is to receive input from the business community regarding short-term and long-term impacts from government decisions being debated at the Capital, especially the proposed business to business sales tax. The meeting will take place at the Holiday Inn Express in Vadnais Heights, 1100 E. Co. Rd E. from 10:00-12:00 refreshments will be served.
