The Health Care Exchange, which is the 66 million dollar state-wide operating system for the federal Affordable Care Act, better known as Obama Care has two funding versions. The Minnesota State Senate is proposing to fund the health care exchange through tobacco funds, while the House is proposing a 3.5% tax of small business and individual health insurance plans. Large self insured plans would be exempt. This new tax would be added to a current tax on traditional health insurance to pay for policies purchased by individuals who have pre-existing health conditions: If you are concerned about paying a new permanent tax of 3.5% on your health insurance plan to fund the Minnesota Health Insurance Exchange I recommend you call the following DFL representatives: Representative Peter Fischer (651) 296. 5363 (Mahtomedi, parts of Maplewood and White Bear) and Representative Jason Isaacson (651) 296. 7153 (part of White Bear Lake ,Gem Lake) Just leaving a voice mail is sufficient. Your collective action can make a difference. The proposed business to business service tax was withdrawn because of business pressure.
