NEW: HR NOW Council Corner!

It’s summertime and the HEAT is on.  Do you know that employers are responsible for protecting workers from extreme heat?  The following is some information on how to meet your obligations under the law:
  • Provide heat stress training and know the signs and symptoms of heat-induced illnesses and what to do to help the workers.
  • Schedule hot jobs for the cooler part of the day
  • Provide rest periods with water breaks
  • Monitor workers who are at risk of heat stress due to medications, needing to wear personal protective equipment such as respirators and/or they have had heat-induced illness in the past
  • Acclimate workers by exposing them for progressively longer periods to hot work environments
For training or more information, The Chamber Partnership’s HR NOW platform and the HR Council can be a resource for you and your organization.   Please feel free to e-mail the HR Council at ckoch@hrsystems.cc with any questions or if you would like for us to contact you.
Best Regards,

Buskers Wanted for Whitehouse Event

busk·er noun \ˈbəs-kər\  Definition of BUSKER:  chiefly British : a person who
entertains in a public place for donations.

The Whitehouse Arts Advisory Board (WAAB) is hosting the Third Annual Buskerfest on Sunday afternoon, August 14, 2016.  We are looking for local performers to participate in the Village Park from 2 – 5 pm. All forms of family entertainment are welcome: musicians, magicians, dancers, mimes, face painters, sketch artists, puppeteers, balloon artists, jugglers, etc.  Two dozen performers participated at the prior Buskerfest and both the performers and audiences were amazed at the quality and variety offered by local entertainers.

As an added bonus this year, The Grape Smugglers will perform in the new Park Pavilion immediately following the Buskerfest from 5 – 8 pm.

Application forms are available at www.whitehouseoh.gov (Forms).  If you have questions, please email bknisely@whitehouseoh.gov or call 419-877-5383.

FIVE WAYS TO TURN YOUR CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP INTO SALES!

Here are five ways business owners can derive value from their chamber membership.

1. Get on the chamber's site
One of the very first challenges new business owners face is quickly spreading the word about their venture. Did you know that we offer our members’ banner ad space on the chamber's website for a nominal fee?   Aligning your company with the Chamber's website is a strategic move that allows you to share in the large number of community visits it generates.

Members frequently use their online profile page and directory on the chamber's website to give their customers a convenient point of reference to learn more about the services they offer. Members can post coupons, share company news, and communicate with our community at large through their profile page."

2. Let the chamber promote your news
Most "how to" articles regarding free publicity tell you to ingratiate yourself with local reporters so that they will publish news about your company. At the chamber, no such effort is needed. One of its services is publishing news about its members’ companies and promoting their events—on its website, in a weekly email, or in a newsletter. Inform your local chamber of what's new at your company.

Heroin Steals the Future- There is Help Campaign

Heroin abuse has grown to staggering proportions in NW Ohio, and while the general public is made aware of it through the media, no one can assess the true impact of the epidemic to the community.

Keith Walker, President of Walker Funeral Homes, launched a health alliance comprised of mental health and government agencies, local support groups, the media and local businesses for the “Heroin Steals the Future – There is Help” campaign in January 2016.

The collaboration reinforces the message that there is help for the addict, caregiver and local business seeking support agencies and information. This partnership now unveils one of the most comprehensive websites  – a resource center that gives advice, support and information about treatment, where to seek assistance and emergency measures.

Torres states “most heroin addicts are people with jobs--accountants, lawyers, construction workers, nurses, and secretaries."

As the workforce component of the Heroin Alliance, The Chamber Partnership wants business owners to understand the importance of this epidemic and know that resources are available. If you would like more information on the resources that are available please check out www.helpwithheroin.com.
