Event Description
Our Simon Day annual lecture is held in memory of historian and Ulysses S. Grant scholar Dr. John Y. Simon. Simon taught at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for many years and edited the 31 volume Papers of Ulysses S. Grant and wrote or edited several books on Grant, Lincoln, and the Civil War.

This year's guest lecturer will be Louis L. Picone, discussing his book Grant's Tomb: The Epic Death of Ulysses S. Grant and the Making of an American Pantheon. Picone has written several books on Presidential history and teaches history at William Paterson University in New Jersey.
