Event Description
As Kansas moved towards statehood, four constitutions were proposed. The second one, the Lecompton Constitution, was a document drafted and signed in 1857 in the Territorial Capital of Kansas: Lecompton. This document was pro-slavery.
Paul Bahnmaier, President of the Lecompton Historical Society, will share the history of the Lecompton Constitution and how voters rejected it making Kansas a free state.
