Event Description
This annual regatta on the Rappahannock River off Irvington is a beautiful race for classic sailboats that combines fun, seamanship and savvy with good times and the opportunity to help others by raising money for local hospice services, all in one great weekend. This "Turkey Shoot" regatta (named for its earlier timing closer to Thanksgiving), is one of the largest regattas on the Bay and is the second largest hospice regatta in the US and had earlier been named by the Chesapeake Bay Magazine as "the Best in the Bay." www://turkeyshoot.org.
This 3-day event is a combined effort of the Irvington Community, Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck, Riverside Hospice Agencies, Rappahannock River Yacht Club and Yankee Point Yacht Club, with shore-side events, including some open to the public such as happy hour on Friday October 4th and dinner on October 5th, at the RRYC at 100 Rappahannock Road, Irvington. Registration is open to all, with a fee of $105 per entry which includes free breakfasts for crew, free cap, T-shirt and mug for the captain. Check-in and registration will be at 4PM Oct. 4th.
Racing will be over Saturday and Sunday with the Skipper's meeting at 9:00 Sat. with the one division race, 10-12 fleets race at 11:00 and a Skipper's meeting at 08:30 Sunday with the pursuit race at 10:30.
Awards and snacks after 2PM Sunday.
Other events, also open to the public include Happy Hour Friday Oct. 4th, with heavy hors d'oeuvres, ($20.00) music and cash bar, Cocktail Hour (cash bar) Sat. Oct 5th, 5:00 PM and dinner and music 6:00 to 7:30 PM. ($25.00).
