Douglas County School District Board of Education Authorizes Bond for 2024 Ballot

The Douglas County School District Board of Education (BOE) has authorized a Bond question for the 2024 ballot. At the August 27 meeting, the BOE unanimously voted 7-0 to place before voters a $490 million Bond.

If the Bond is approved by voters, Douglas County homeowners will not see an increase in current property taxes. The Bond would allow the school district to restructure its debt in order to keep property taxes from increasing.

“We would not be doing our job if we did not preserve what we have and expand what we need,”said DCSD Board of Education Director Brad Geiger. “We have to invest in making them [our students] the best people they can be and we can do it for a reasonable price, at the right time.”

If passed by voters, a $490 million Bond would be used to upgrade aging schools and facilities; build additional career and technical education pathways; upgrade school safety and security; and construct and expand neighborhood schools. The Bond would provide for two new elementary schools in growing areas of the county, as well as the expansion of one existing middle school.

“We are showing our community that we are committed to making sure that we are serving the needs of each community,” said DCSD Board of Education President Christy Williams. “At the end of the day, this is what’s right and best for kids.”
