Our company was formed in 1934 in Madison by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation to provide low-cost auto insurance to Farm Bureau members. Seeing our customers’ needs for additional protection, we worked to expand our offerings. First, we offered broader farm insurance, including fire, wind, and hail crop damage protection. Then we expanded to offer additional protection for farm families and businesses in the communities we serve.
We adopted our current name in 1957 when the Rural Mutual Casualty Insurance Company merged with the Rural Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Wisconsin. Reflecting our commitment to the communities where we work, in 1965 we partnered with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) of middle and high schools to sponsor the WIAA/Rural Mutual Sportsmanship Award. The award recognizes one school that displays exceptional sportsmanship in each team tournament.
