After spending her childhood and young-adult years in Hawaii, Kanani relocated to the mainland to complete her Bachelor of Arts Degree in dance at the University of New Mexico. She is currently the administrative assistant to the Regional Economic Competitiveness Officer. Project management is among the strengths the brings to her position at the Chamber of Commerce.
Before joining the Chamber of Commerce, Kanani spent some time teaching dance in Albuquerque and Santa Fe for NDI-NM, as well as enjoying a brief stint as a professional and competitive dancer. She later found herself in a data analysis role which she excelled at despite the departure from the familiarity of the performance and teaching space.
Kanani’s passion is heavily rooted in outdoor activities and overall health and fitness. Growing up next to the ocean and learning to surf at age 4 sparked an undying love and appreciation of nature. She spends a lot of time in the mountains hiking and camping with her husband and two young children. She also frequently practices hot yoga, CrossFit, and indoor rock climbing. Kanani is a member of the Outdoorist Oath; an organization committed to environmental preservation, inclusion in the outdoors, and adventure. Through outdoor experiences and identifying ways we can uniquely “show up” for all three in relationship, simultaneously, she hopes to shift the measure adventure to that of an emotion, rather than a numerical accomplishment involving peaks, summits, and level of difficulty.
