PNM Impacts Small Businesses With Big Dreams

(Albuquerque, NM) – Most businesses start off small, and then gradually grow into strong, successful partners of the communities they are in. Having valuable resources, like those offered by local Chambers, can be an important component to allowing small business owners access to tools that may help their business succeed. Recently, PNM Resources Foundation gifted a total of $200,000 over the next two years to the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce (AHCC), to support a program that aims to do just that.

AHCC plans to nurture local small businesses through a program called “Growing Small Businesses: Powered by PNM.” The program is an exclusive benefit to AHCC members and will provide one-on-one consulting, training on handling marketing, cash flow, etc. The program cohorts, tentatively scheduled to start in April of 2018, will take course over five to six weeks, and AHCC plans to host around eight of these cohorts over the next two years. AHCC also plans to collaborate with the PNM Energy Efficiency department to educate program participants on how to manage energy costs as their business grows.

“Small businesses are so vital to our community here in New Mexico,” said Becky Teague, VP of External Affairs with PNM. “We felt that this program was important to support because of the valuable one-on-one resources being provided, which are vital to any business.”

In honor of PNM turning 100 years old, PNM Resources and its shareholders made a sizeable contribution to the PNMR Foundation, totaling $1 million over the course of two years. Five different organizations in New Mexico are beneficiaries of these funds, including AHCC, all of which have a focus towards furthering education and economic development in our state.
