Let Them Eat Cakez

The grand opening/ribbon cutting for Let Them Eat Cakez was Monday, April 4.  We cut the ribbon at 5:30 pm but the grand opening started that morning!  Ashley Kennedy, co-owner of the bakery, said they were really surprised and excited about the number of people that stopped by during the day.  Stop and visit with Ashley and Shirley.  Their cupcakes are "to die for".

Classy Crossroads

Classy Crossroads, the new boutique in town, had their grand opening/ribbon cutting Monday, March 21 from 5:30-6:30 pm. If you haven't checked this store out, do it soon.  They have some beautiful merchandise. Dana Kittrell is the owner of the store and she will be happy to visit with you and find out exactly what you are looking for.  Welcome to Macclenny.

HAPPY EASTER

21st Annual Golf Tournament

Golf tournament time is closing in on us!  Saturday, April 29 is the date.  There is still time to sign up a team, or choose to be a hole sponsor or corporate sponsor.  Call the office or e-mail Barbara @ bblackshear@bakerchamberfl.com for additional info

Business Social

The first business social for 2011 was Thursday, March 10 hosted by the Historical Society.  They had prepared a brochure that lead you through the facility and explained how and what the various rooms in the house were used as before and after renovations and additions.  Sheldon Beasley, president of the Historical Society, explained what they are about and how the local businesses and individuals can offer support. Karen Thomas explained what you can find in the numerous books at the facility. Several Chamber members were interested in geneology and asked about how to get started on doing that. If you missed this social, you missed an interesting time.

Glitz, Glam & Goodies

This is going to be soo much fun! The Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Glitz, Glam & Goodies day for the ladies Saturday, May 7 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm at the Ag Center.  You can shop, eat goodies, see fashion shows, try on jewelry, win prizes or just hang out! Admission is $5 and you can use your admission ticket for one of the drawings. You can also purchase an arm's length of tickets and put the tickets in whichever drawings you wish. Every booth will have a drawing! There are also raffles - $750 worth of furniture from Gibson McDonald and a patio set from Walmart.

We only have a few booths remaining, but if you are interested in a booth and you sell "girl stuff", call the Chamber at 259-6433 or email bblackshear@bakerchamberfl.com. The booth is FREE to Chamber members and $50 for non-members. Hope you can join us on the 7th.

Lunch and Learn

Our speaker for the lunch and learn April 12th is Dr. Sheri Carder.  Many of you heard Dr. Carder at a lunch and learn in 2009.  She presented "Low Cost Ways to Market Your Business".  Dr. Carder is a professor at Florida Gateway College and adds alot of humor to her presentations.  This year her presentation is "Creating Your Own Brand".  We look forward to seeing and hearing Dr. Carder again.  Try to join us Tuesday, April 12 at noon.  You will be glad you did!

Mom's Matter

NE FL Healty Start Coalition

If you know someone who is pregnant, make sure they get the care they need. Tips to let pregnant women know they matter:

1.  Make sure they are getting prenatal care early and regularly.

2.  Allow them to go ahead of you in line.

3.  Compliment their appearance.

4.  Include them and their unborn baby in your prayers.

5.  Ask them if you can help with anything.

This message is brought to you by the Baker County Infant Mortality Task Force, a subcommittee of Healthy Baker, Inc. For more information on prenatal care and to find a doctor, call 1-800-451-2229. For more on women's health in Baker County, call 904-723-5422 x 113.
