BCHD Dental Facility Open HouseThe Baker County Health Department held a grand opening/open house/ribbon cutting at their new dental facility Thursday, August 23. Kerry Dunlavey, Director of the Health Department spoke briefly about the facility. The health department also has a dental bus that travels to surrounding counties. Chamber Night @ Suns GameChamber members, family and friends attended a Jacksonville Suns game Friday, July 20 and enjoyed all we could eat hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn and drinks. Approximately 50 people attended, and although the Suns lost the game, we had a great time. #ilovejaxDo you Tweet? If so, you might want to follow #ilovejax. What is #ilovejax? It's a campaign that represents and promotes what there is to love about the seven counties in the JAX region. This includes Baker County, and its a long term effort to further boost pride in our regional community. Why is it important? Economic development begins at home. Community pride helps market a city. When you feel good about where you live, you speak positively to your friends, family and colleagues that may live somewhere else. The word spreads. Visitors experience the positive energy and they go home talking about what they love about the community. This campaign started as a part of the Innovate NE Florida project, and was started by the JAX Chamber, but it is about the region. The campaign began in October 2011 and will continue for the next 3-5 years. The goals of the campaign are to increase jobs but also to show our strong sense of community pride to help attract new businesses and visitors to the region. The reasons to love the region: A great place to live - commuities across the region offer a small town feel with big city amenities nearby. Each community offers its own appeal and housing options to fit almost any budget. Many rural communities offer large lots for agricultual pursuits, to raise horses or just keep as undeveloped acreage. A great place to play - close to beaches, golf courses, restaurants, theaters; state parks; fishing; Civil War history. A great place to work - close to three Fortune 500 and eight Fortune 1000 companies, military bases, JAX port, colleges, large hospitals; with large megasites available for industry, one of these sites being in Baker County. |
