The "Peoples" College

July 1st, Lake City Community College officially became Florida Gateway College. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in front of the Timberwolves statute and Dr. Charles Hall, President of the college, Debbie Boyd, State Representative District 11 and Chuck Brannen, chairman of the Board of Directors, briefly spoke to the folks gathered for the occasion.

LCCC, for 30 years, has been a "tradition" for graduates of Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist and Union Counties. Many students of these counties felt comfortable with LCCC because it was a small, community college and close to home, and LCCC had alot of different occupational programs to meet the needs of these students. The strong, comprehensive health fields have graduated many qualifed nurses, therapist and other emergency and health care workers from Baker County. Their law enforcement and cosmotology programs have been large sources of education for this county.  Several Baker County residents have also been members of the faculty, staff and administration at the college.

The college originally was a forest ranger school, utilizing buildings that remained from a WWII air base. 1961, the state created Lake City Junior College and then in 1970 their title changed to Lake City Community College.

The college offers excellent programs in liberal arts and sciences. A large number of students begin their college careers in these programs, earn their AS degrees, transfer to larger institutions and benefit from their time at the community college.

2010 Baker County Fair Sponsorships

The Fair Association is looking for sponsors for their 2010 Fair Book.  Every year the fair association publishes a book with all the information an exhibitor will need to know regarding the business booths, food sales, steer and swine sales, etc. Those books are being printed early this year so the exhibitors will have plenty of time to prepare. The sponsorships will help with publishing costs and the rising cost of the livestocks shows and sales.

The sponsorship is $300 and the sponsor will receive their logo in color on the front cover along with special acknowledgment inside the book. In addition, there will be a banner with the sponsor's name and logo hanging at the fair ground.

If you are not interested in a sponsorship, but would like to participate, you may purchase an ad in the book. Ad sizes are full page, 1/2 page, 1/4 page and business card size.  If interested, contact Jessica Prevatt at 904-588-3628 or 259-2400 (BC Press).
