The Benson / San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an " all years invited" Car Show in Lion's Park Sunday, October 12, 2014 for Butterfield Days. We are inviting Vendors to participate, music, 50/50 drawing, door prizes, Top 10 and Best in Show trophies, and free T-Shirts to the first 50 entries. Pre-registration is $20. $25 day of the show. Registration is 8-10 a.m. and the Show is 10 a.m. - 3p.m. Any members who would like to sponsor the car show may contact Debi at the Chamber office. Any sponsors donating  $100+ will get their logos on the T-shirts. Any members wanting to donate promotional items for the goody bags to be given to the entrants, please drop them off with Debi or give her a call. Vendors also need to call Debi or stop by the office. Registration and vendor forms are available at the office, or on the City of Benson website.

The RVers Appreciation Days is being put together for the benefit of Benson as a whole. We need to sharpen up our image and promote ourselves. We need to give people reasons to come and spend their money here. If we don't start promoting ourselves and offering reasons for people to come here, they will go other places. The total RV slots in Benson were only at a 60% capacity for the last 2 years. The initial meeting was held yesterday in the SAEDG/ Chamber office. Only one person from the RV Park industry in Benson was in attendance. Pat, manager of San Pedro Resort Community and Valley High Mobile Community. This is a "3 times during the winter" party, with the first one starting in November. This is a very well thought out plan, that will bring RVers, both families and retired, to the Benson area. This is a plan that will benefit all of Benson. Participation is definately needed by our RV parks, and the more business owners on-board and aware of what is going on - the better! Our July Chamber breakfast went very well! We had over 30 people in attendance. It was held at Galleano's Restaurant. 4 of the candidates running for JP3 were in attendance, gave their speeches, and afterwards took questions from those in attendance. They did a wonderful job!We had some new members come, and some who decided to join the Chamber afterwards. Luz Pittman from National Bank, let the members know that N.B. is now doing small business equipment loans. Alexa from Arizona Lifeline, introduced the member to member discount her company is offering. Dan from Goodwill Industries, has a 75% off sale running through the end of July. Benson Auto Body was last month's Spotlight Business of the Month, and Goodwill is the next one. All of our Spotlight Businesses have been very happy with the exposure and results from being show cased! Our next Breakfast will be August 21, 2014 @ 7 a.m. @ Galleano's on 4th. See you there!

The Chamber of Commerce held a Candidate's Forum on July 17th at the Benson Lion's Club. We will be holding another forum September 18th, also at the Benson Lion's Club. Judging by the questions asked of the candidates, everyone seems to be on the same page as to the issues that need to be addressed in Benson: Image, budget, economy, drawing people to Benson, and development, all took center stage. The forum was a good place to get a feel of where the candidates stand on these issues and what ideas/plans they have to address these concerns. Some were better suited than others to address these tough issues. Candidates Forums are designed to allow the voting public to get a good feel for who will do the best job for the Benson area. If you are still undecided by September, please mark your calenders to attend the forum in September!
