Butterfield Days

For any of our members who would like to help out the day of Butterfield Days for 4-6 hours, your help would be greatly appreciated! There are many little details that need to be addressed during the show such as:  setting- up, hanging banners, counting ballots, selling raffle tickets, selling T-shirts, registering vehicles and passing out the T -shirts, passing out the placard numbers, and goody bags, directing the Show cars and motorcycles where to park, and maybe even selling at the concession stand. Nothing very strenuous, but it is all very important. It is a great way to meet people, support your Chamber's events, and be involved in your community!

This year will be the Car Show, Motorcycle Show, Antique Tractor Show, Pony Express, Antique Tractor Pulls, and Antique Engine Display, so there will be quite a bit going on at the park. The event is from 10a.m. (after the parade) until 2 p.m. The Rodeo starts at 3. Hope to see everyone out and about for the whole day of fun!!!

Applications for the Vehicle Show, and Parade applications are available for pick - up at the Chamber office. Or can be emailed to you.

Parade theme this year is "Everyday Heros".

Cyber Security Work Shop

Don't forget! September 9 at the Benson Lion's Club there will be a Cyber Securtiy WorkShop sponsored by the Benson Chamber of Commerce, Cochise County Emergency Services, and the City of Phoenix. It is from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. and a light meal will be served. Please RSVP to Debi at the Chamber of Commerce. 520.265.8031

About the car:
This year, Mr. Click is donating a 2015 Ford Mustang, 50th Anniversary Edition. The iconic Mustang, an American muscle car, burst onto the scene in 1964 and never looked back. The Ford Motor Company is building exactly 1,964 of these vehicles that are based on the GT coupe and offered in Kona Blue or the original Wimbledon White of the first Mustang sold in 1964. To give you an idea of just how exclusive this vehicle is, consider this: Bill Ford, CEO of the Ford Motor Company, will take possession of the very first one. Other Ford executives have lined up but the vast majority will be sold to the public. The MSRP is $48,190 but already people are starting to pre-order them all over the world and are offering to pay tens of thousands of dollars over the list price! This vehicle is expected to go up in value, significantly, and is considered to be a collectible.

Quiberi Mission will be Celebrating Founders Day!

Join us for Founders Day on September 26th from 9am - noon! We will be having a Dunk Tank, Bounce House, Miniature Horses, Face Painting, Games and Refreshments. The El Dorado Holdings's project  "Villages at Vigneto" has another milestone accomplishment under their belt. In the last couple of days. SEAGO (Southeast Arizona Government Organizations) has endorsed this project. Great news! Villages at Vigneto has received a Resolution of Support from the SEAGO. This means that the Counties of Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee along with the Communities in those regions support this project to be built in Benson.

Antique Military Convoy Will Be Coming Through Benson!

On October 13th, the Tuesday after Butterfield Days, an Antique Military Convoy will be coming through Benson. They will stop and have lunch here, and give everyone an opportunity to come see the equipment. As it looks now, they will be stopping in one of the retail parking lots on 4th street. They won't be easy to miss!
They are retracing the route of the second US ARMY Transcontinental Motor Convoy across the United States, along the BANKHEAD HIGHWAY.
In 1920 the US ARMY decided to plan and execute a motor convoy of various military vehicles across the country on the newly-formed Bankhead Highway. This convoy was a follow-on project to the 1919 US Army Transcontinental Motor Convoy – the first-ever Convoy across the US along the Lincoln Highway. The Army was determined to further their understanding of the practicality of motorized transport and its place in the US Army. This Convoy was commanded by Col. John F. Franklin.
In summary, the 1920 route began at the White House, in Washington, DC and ended at Balboa Park, in San Diego, CA – some 3,300 miles and 116 days later.
The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) is underway with detail planning to conduct a 95th Anniversary Convoy with as many as 120 Historic Military Vehicles that will retrace the original 1920 Transcontinental Motor Convoy route – along the Bankhead Highway. The MVPA 2015 Bankhead Convoy (“BH-15”) will launch from Washington, DC on Saturday, 19 Septemb
er, 2015 and arrive in San Diego, CA some 29 days later, on Saturday, 17 October.

Some key points around this major project:
· This is a Convoy of privately owned Historic Military Vehicles – of all eras, from WWI
through to military vehicles recently released from our Military.
· The Convoy includes vehicles traveling the entire length of the original route, and those
that are joining for a region of the route. They may travel for a day, several days or
several hundred miles.
· Daily stopping points are planned to be at locations used by the 1920 Convoy where
practical.
· The Convoy plans to establish a static display of the BH’15 Convoy Military Vehicles at
each of our lunch stops and overnight encampments or bivouacs.
· The entire BH’15 Convoy team looks forward to reaching out to our Veterans and current
Service Members and their families to say THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
