Introduction To The New Year With New Activities
Our volunteer staff and the board members are working hard to serve our members. By establishing a  strong foundation of routines, goals and services we can serve you better. This means that we are careful with the kind of activities we are doing. We want to mix things up with breakfasts, luncheons and mixers, . Our primary goal is to get to know you, your business so that we can best serve one another. Our operating office hours are Monday through Friday 9-12 PM. Come and see us.

Triangle T Ranch Mixer
Reminder of the Chamber / Triangle T Ranch Mixer on Thursday, February 07, at pm. Call Linda and let her know you are coming. We encourage you to bring guests.

Airport Advisory Meeting
The meeting was attended by business people, conscientious citizens, pilots and non pilots. After much discussion of what this committee is to accomplish; there were  a couple of items identified. 1. The need for more hangers and tee shades for the companies that are requesting them 2. The building permit process needs to be addressed and easier to get through for the investors who want to build. There were other action items that were addressed briefly with the understanding that we will pursue them later. There are several entities who would base their operations at the airport. The committee is looking at some amenities we can provide for them. Some of the agencies who are interested in basing their operations at the the Benson Airport are the US Forestry Department, Life Line, Life Net, and two other commercial UAV organizations.

What people don't realize that there are several flight trainers who are part of the airport staff ready to teach those of you interested in flying.

Candidate Forum Update
Our candidates forum will be held on February 28 at Lions Club at 559 South Dragoon Street, in Benson 7:00 pm to approximately 8: pm. The forum will provide the voters the opportunity to hear the candidates present their running platform. I would suggest that you as Chamber members attend and meet the candidates. Come and hear how each of the candidates will represent your business in the next term as council members. Our goal is to have the forum take place just as the early ballots are being sent in.

Geoff Oldfather will be moderating the forum. The candidates who are running for Mayor are Tony King and David Lambert; those running for council seats are Lori McGoffin, Brain Crafts, Nick Maldonado, Peter Wagness, and Jeff Cook. The benefit of your membership is that your Chamber will represent you with the city concerns, ideas and when necessary a recourse action. You have a voice with the city council and the City of Benson even if you are a non residents member.

Contract And Job Opportunities To Come Open Soon
Once Rosemont finalizes their last permits with the Forestry Department, they will open to receive applications for contract proposals and for employment. They will need every thing from the start to operations to being a up and running plant. What your chamber will do is to partner with SAEDG and provide a job fair with Rosemont and try to give the residents a jump on the jobs and contracts that will be available. We will keep you updated with any news we hear.

New Volunteers At Chamber Office
Bob and Marti Schmall will be working the chamber office until April. They are winter visitors who come to this community and reside at the SKP Park. They volunteer in what ever community the visit. Starting next week they will be in the office.  You will hear from them shortly with the calls and the mail they send out.  Sarah Retherford has volunteered on Fridays from 9-12 Since October.

Presentation Of The Butterfield Stage Coach History
Gerald Ahnert will be presenting the Butterfield Stage Coach history and will reveal the route maps dating back to September 1858 in  our local area and the properties that the old stage line ran through. Come too see if your property is one of those properties that was on the path. If you live on Mark street it is very possible that the coach ran through your front of back yard.

Gerald will do his first presentation at Singing Wind Bookstore on Sunday, January 27th from 1 - 3 pm. His second presentation will be at the Benson City Council Meeting on Monday, January 28th at 7 PM, where he will do a power point presentation. Both of these venues are open to the public.

Need An Answer To This Question
Most of the businesses in Benson are closed on Mondays. Mondays look like Sundays when going through mainstreet. This trend has a history. Can any one tell us why most of the businesses in Benson are closed on Mondays?  Does anyone have the reason why this started? "We are closed on Mondays". It is good to know Where this started and why so that we can at least say we understand where it started and why.
