Established on Sept. 14, 1812, by Governor Ninian Edwards, our county predates Illinois' statehood as the 21st state in the Union. Over two centuries, Madison County's government has evolved into what it is today – governed by a 26-member County Board and a countywide elected Board Chair, providing essential services to the community.
