Quarter Midget Racing is a form of automobile racing. The cars are approximately one quarter (1/4) the size of a full-size midget race car. The adult size midget races an oval track of one-fifth of a mile in length or larger. The child's quarter midget track is 1/20th of a mile.
Our track is one of the biggest and fastest in the nation. 1/12th of a mile. An adult size midget in the 1940s and 1950s could reach 120 miles per hour, while the single cylinder 7 cubic inch quarter midget engine could make an available speed of 30 miles per hour with a Rookie Red restrictor plate, or one quarter the speed of the adult car.
Current upper-class quarter midgets can exceed well above 30 miles per hour, up to 60 mph, but remain safe due to the limited size of the track and the safety roll cages and safety gear. There is always some element of danger in any type of racing, however.
The drivers are restricted to ages 5 to 16. Tracks are typically banked ovals one-twentieth of a mile long and have a surface of dirt, concrete, or asphalt. As said above, our track is a 1/12th mile, banked, D shaped, paved oval. The Las Vegas Quarter Midget Championship is dedicated to getting kids on the track racing, bring families together and make memories and friends for life.
