My name is Deni Crow. That’s short for Dennise. Don’t worry, I have a sister named Kimm. Thats just how my family rolls.
I own a boutique style gym called Victory Fitness Studio. It’s located in Boulder City, NV which is 30 miles outside of Las Vegas and about 10 miles from Lake Mead. Boulder City is the town that built Hoover Dam. We call it “Clean, Green, Boulder City.” My web address is “victoryfitnessstudiobydeni.com.” I know it’s sooooo long.
My journey with healthfulness started when I was in high school. One day I found myself about 30 lbs overweight and for my height (5’1”), that was 30 lbs too much. I was never good in sports so I took up running. It helped! Imagine that! I had always been active as a kid (growing up in the mountains of California), I was always outdoors. I loved every minute of it. Fast forward to high school and getting my drivers license- I suddenly started gaining weight…go figure…driving everywhere rather than walking…hello pudge! Plus I discovered McDonald’s drive-thru. Really, you don’t even have to get out of your car to get food? Genius! OR so I thought until I looked in the mirror. Whaaaaaaat??? Was that me? Plus, I felt tired and cranky ALL the time. I knew this was not who I wanted to be. So I started running and eating better. It worked.
So now, 30 years down the road I became a gym owner, Personal Trainer and a Wellness & Nutrition Consultant.
And so it goes….
A few years ago someone asked me “Do I really have to work out for the rest of my life?” That’s a question a client of mine asked me the first time she ever came to my gym. I remember I laughed out loud. I thought her question was so funny. It seemed like a “no brainer” to me. “Of course you have to work out for the rest of your life!!!” was my reply. I can remember thinking “who WOULDN”T want to work out for the rest of their life? Isn’t that what we’re suppose to do?’’ But, I soon came to realize the reality of most of my clients thoughts was this, “I’ll get in shape and then I won’t have to work out any more! Score!” It really blows my mind that most people can’t fathom the idea that if they want to stay healthy and in shape they absolutely have to work out for the r.e.s.t. of their lives. I love it! They hate it. Needless to say, my client, wasn’t happy with my answer. I went into more depth about why she was going to have to work out for the rest of her life if she wanted to be fit and healthy. I told her it was going to have to be a way of life for her. If she stuck with it she would start to love it. Guess what? Five years later she is still working out with me and loving it! Oh, and she looks and feels like a million bucks!
Thank you for spending your time reading my blog instead of doing crunches. After all, laughter and relaxation are important too!
