Legg Middle School
Building Highlights
We have many exciting things happening as we wind up the 2017-18 school year! Three of Ms. Robinson’s students recently received awards for their essay submissions in the Farm Bureau essay contest! Mikaighla Wilber, Adelle Tackett, and Jillian McKinley were honored for their essays on heroes in their lives. Check out their billboard off of I-69! The LMS spring band concert is Tuesday, May 15, and the choir will perform their spring concert on Monday, May 21. Both of those concerts are in the CHS cafeteria. On May 22, we will celebrate the accomplishments of our sixth and seventh grade students at our awards ceremonies. The sixth grade ceremony is at 6:00, followed by the seventh grade at 7:00. We will celebrate our eighth graders at our awards night on Thursday, May 24. Our eighth grade students will visit Civil War Days on Friday, May 25. Lastly, students who earned the Cardinal Pride reward this year will attend the Battle Creek Bombers baseball game on May 31. It’s wonderful to end the school year with so many celebrations!

Lakeland Elementary 4th and 5th Grade Fun
4th Grade Nature Day
The 4th graders had such a great time during Nature Day. They learned about the health of ponds and soil. They learned about birds, their nests and the ways they can help them. They also learned about predator and prey relationships.
Students really enjoyed planting trees. They can't wait to see them grow over the years!
5th Graders Launch Hot Air Balloons
Students in Mrs. Dally’s and Mrs. Hagaman’s classrooms studied hot air balloons, how they rise, and the types of conditions that make for successful flights.
They constructed their own balloons and had the opportunity to launch them. After their flights, the students gathered and discussed the difficulties they experienced and shared ideas on the ways they could have improved their flights.
Jefferson Elementary:
Jefferson welcomed Branch County law enforcement and other safety personnel during the last Adopt-ACop session for the year. BCSO Deputy Jackie Harris and her companion Xena introduced their friends who described their duties and responsibilities to our second grade students. Jefferson piloted the program midway through the year with great feedback. Deputy Harris and Xena meet with second graders monthly, bringing in her first responder friends to create better relationships and understanding of their roles in the community.
Jefferson’s Schools of Hope program is wrapping up for the year. The program, in partnership with Branch County United Way, Kiwanis Club of Coldwater and the Great Start Collaborative, pairs trained volunteers with students needing reading support. The volunteers meet with the students once a week for thirty minutes. Teacher and the volunteers communicate regularly to best meet the needs of the students. We are truly blessed for the support provided to our eight-four students serviced under this program.
Jefferson is pleased to announce that all of our students have enrolled to participate in the Kids Read Now summer reading program. Students chose nine books; three given to them in May and the other six mailed to them over the summer. We can’t wait to see how this program reduces the “summer slide”.
Coldwater High School:
The Anatomy classes visited the University of Toledo's Medical School and toured their Anatomy Lab earlier this year...next week a representative from the Red Cross will be talking to students about blood, donations, and each student will find out what their blood type is.
On Saturday March 3, 2018, five students from Coldwater High School participated in the MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge. This is a rigorous event that gives students fourteen hours to complete three parts of a mathematical modeling scenario. Pictured below (L to R) are senior students Stuart Sobeske, Lewis Eastmead, William Reehl, Selena Hostetler, and Allison Marshall who all worked from 8:00 a.m. in the morning until 10:00 p.m. Saturday night to formulate mathematical models and submit a written report approximately 20 pages in length. These dedicated students chose to participate in the challenge and worked tirelessly as a team to complete the tasks in the time given while supervised by CHS Mathematics teacher, Mrs. Wendorf.
Our Youth in Government students performed very well again at the State Conference. Coldwater had the largest delegation in the State with 54 students. The program has continued to grow under the direction and dedication of our adviser, LMS Teacher Sherry Bean. Our students again earned recognition as leaders and participants and our Mock Judicatory Court team placed 2
nd in their competition.
Kinder Learning Academy Preschool services children ages 3-5 years old at the Lincoln Learning Center. The last few weeks, our students have been watching our five caterpillars grow into butterflies and will be releasing them very soon. Our students remove planted green beans and will be taking those home before summer break begins. We have been busy preparing for Preschool Graduation, as well as getting our students ready for Kindergarten or Young Fives with a visit to Max Larsen earlier this week. KLA is enrolling now for the 2018-2019 school year.
2018 Max Larsen Elementary School Business Spotlight
Max Larsen Elementary School is always buzzing with wonderful educational activities and data-driven assessments to assist in the instruction of our students. However, as the end of the school year quickly approaches, many extra-special opportunities arise to keep engagement in the learning process positive such as Kindergarten field trips to Kids ‘N’ Stuff, Kinder Learning Academy (KLA) Preschool visits & Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. Here are a few pictures of these memory-making times for students & staff, plus a look at our end-of-day Curbside Pick-up procedures implemented this year to improve the safety of our dismissal process.
Kindergarten students enjoy “hands-on” learning at Kids ‘N’ Stuff in Albion, Michigan.
Eager KLA Preschool students walk the halls, read with current Kindergarten students & enjoy a class read-aloud story during their visit to Max Larsen Elementary in preparation of their arrival in the fall as Young 5s & Kindergarten students.
Teachers & staff members show appreciation of one another & spread positivity by “secretly” sharing uplifting adjectives about their colleagues during an appreciation breakfast activity.
