This week's Coldwater Area Chamber "Member Spotlight of the Week" recognition is going out to the Tibbits Opera Foundation and Arts Council, Inc. Read more below on why Tibbits feels that they deserve this week's Spotlight recognition.
Most people are familiar with Tibbits Opera House and have occasionally driven by just to admire her beautiful architecture. The theatre has become a shining example of the value of restoring old buildings and is easily becoming one of the most photographed locations in our area. While many have connections with Tibbits, attending shows or cherishing fond memories, few recognize the full extent of all that goes on at the theatre.
There is something happening nearly every weekend at the theatre. Tibbits’ own events include professional summer theatre and popcorn theatre, concerts and other entertainment events by regional and national performers, plays for and by our area youth, art exhibits, classic movies, tours and other unique events. Additionally Tibbits hosts and array of community events from the Quincy and Coldwater school performances, community theatre, community band, and local recitals to the annual Rotary show. In recent years it has also become the hot spot for weddings, showers, senior pictures and corporate meetings.
One of those signature events— Tibbits 39th Annual Auction “Tibbits at the Hop”— comes up November 3, 2018. A time-honored tradition, the auction is the social event of the year. With a 50s sock-hop theme and nearly 500 items that run the gamut from everyday goods and services to unique packages, dinners and other experiences, there is really something for everyone. Proceeds allow the theatre to continue providing quality programming to patrons of all ages while increasing tourism and economic impact for our community.
Tibbits also happily teams with other events in the community. This weekend, October 27, Monster Fest, a classic film triple-feature, will complement the annual Halloween parade. “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein” will be shown at 5:30 before the parade and two more campy monster movies from the 50s follow the parade. Admission is FREE so it’s an event not to miss.
On November 27, Tibbits and Arts Alive help you get ready for Christmas with The Art of Holiday Food, Drink and Décor. Enjoy food and drink as you learn new recipes, watch demos, create your own beautiful swag complete with floral-shop bow, mingle over coffee and desert, and come together briefly at the end of the night to pull the winning tickets for the 12 Days of Christmas drawing.
Opportunities also abound for all ages to volunteer and get involved planning events, helping at the shows, performing on stage, or getting involved behind the scenes. Year round, Tibbits is the place to be for great entertainment. Check out the complete schedule at Tibbits.org or call 517.278.6029 for more information.
