A Message from the Past Director, Cayden Sparks

Dear Members & Supporters:

First of all I can't thank you enough for helping make the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce such a wonderful place to work at for the past two and a half years.  As of today I start my new career as Commercial Lines Account Manager at Vested Risk Strategies and I am very excited for this transition.  However, I am also very sad that I will not be the Executive Director at the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce anymore.  I would like to congratulate Lori Hunt on her new appointment as Chamber Director as I know she is going to do a wonderful job when she starts on Monday, August 10th.  I will dearly miss the Chamber and all of the wonderful opportunities it provided for me.  To all of you Chamber members and other supporters reading this message I truly can't thank you enough for how great you have been to work with.  Your support has made the Chamber everything it is today and without your support the Chamber would not be the small business economic engine it is as of now.  I remember my first two weeks more than ever as I helped host the 2018 First Responders Appreciation Night and the 2018 Annual Community Awards Dinner within those first two weeks.  At first I was very nervous, but after those two weeks I realized how great of an opportunity being the Chamber Director really was as our local small businesses are probably some of the most supportive organizations you will ever find around.  You are all so truly amazing and I encourage you to keep up all the great work that you continue to do consistently year after year.  The Branch County area is truly a special place to live, work, and play and I learned nothing less than that as my time spent as Executive Director.  Thank you all once again for all of your dedicated efforts to make this County such an amazing/wonderful place, I appreciate you all very much and that will never change!

Sincerely,

Past Executive Director
Cayden Sparks

Community Leader Members

Junior Achievement of Southwest Michigan - Member Spotlight of the Week

Junior Achievement’s (JA) purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. JA fosters work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and uses experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential, bringing positive changes in students’ individual communities.

Locally, Junior Achievement of Southwest Michigan is working with Branch County schools to bring financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workplace readiness education to local students.  Having impacted approximately 400 students this past year with JA curriculum, we look forward to impacting even more students during the 2020-2021 school year.
In addition to our in-person, volunteer led delivery model, JA has quickly adapted due to the Covid-19 virus to provide schools with a number of K-12 on-line delivery options, as well as the possibility to have volunteers deliver the curriculum remotely via services such as Zoom and Google Classroom.

Are you interested in supporting the important work of JA in Branch County classrooms?  If so, sign up today for the JA Virtual 5K.  All proceeds from the event remain local to impact students.  See https://juniorachievement5krun.weebly.com/ for more information and to register!

Altrusa International of Branch County

Altrusa International of Branch County is keeping busy trying to learn new ways to negotiate the crazy, difficult world we all live in. We have become Excellent "ZOOMERS".
We recently gave over $1700 to five local pantries to help with food. As a club, we decided to use the lunch money that we had left in our coffers at the end of the fiscal year. Because we pay lunch dues in advance, there was some unspent money when we were forced to shut down.

Coming up in the very near future is our Annual Golf Outing, which will be "safely" held at the Coldwater Golf Course on Friday, August 28th .

As you can surmise, funding raising thi s year has become incredibly difficult... and unfortunately, as you
all know, because of CoVid19 the needs will be greater. So we will continue to press on and do the things we can safely do that are important to the people of Branch County.

For those of you who golf... hurry the field is filling up. For those of you who would like to sponsor a hole, we always have room for more. If you have a gift you can offer to be used as a raffle prize, let us know. We will gladly come out and pick it up. This is our biggest fund raiser each year and we really need to continue to be successful to be able to continue to help our community. For further questions, you can check out our FB page or contact Alicia Cole at 278-1569.

Coming up in the late fall will be our other major fundraiser, the Annual Diamond Raffle. You won't want to miss it. Again, all funds raised will be given back to the community.
For further information about Altrusa, check out our FB page or contact President Jan Storrs at 1-269- 580-6399.
