About Billy Kay
Billy Kay
Billy Kay is a passionate American country songwriter and performer, known for his heartfelt storytelling and dedication to making a difference. From Las Vegas to South Carolina and now Nashville, his music has touched audiences worldwide. Despite facing challenges, including homelessness as a veteran, Billy continues to inspire through his "Abject Poverty Tour," where he travels, writes, records, and performs. He also gives back by donating a portion of his royalties and merchandise sales to charitable causes, including The Shade Tree, a shelter for battered women.
Billy's musical journey began at age five with the accordion before switching to the guitar at seven. Over the years, he has mastered multiple instruments and studied music at Five Towns College and CW Post University. His collaborations with top-tier musicians, often working for little or no cost, reflect the support for his mission of music with a cause. His latest releases, including "When You Hold Me Tight" and the upcoming "Southern Girl," showcase his dedication to meaningful storytelling.
Beyond his music, Billy has supported fellow artists and charitable causes, organizing the 2011 "Country for a Cause" CD featuring award-winning independent country musicians. His music has reached fans across the globe, with people dancing to his songs from Asia to Denmark. Billy remains committed to writing music that resonates with listeners while raising awareness for those in need. "As long as people keep listening, I'll keep writing," he says, continuing to make an impact in country music and beyond.
