MVCAA
MVCAA, based in Carrollton, Missouri, has been dedicated to eradicating poverty since 1965. Our mission began one year after the Lyndon Johnson administration enacted the Economic Opportunity Act as part of their "Great Society" legislative agenda. Today, we are proud to be one of 19 community action agencies in Missouri and one of 1,000 in the United States.
At MVCAA, our programs and services are specifically designed to empower individuals to transition from poverty to self-reliance. As a 501(c)(3) private, not-for-profit charitable organization, we take our responsibility to steward funds seriously to provide maximum impact for those we serve.
Our journey started humbly 55 years ago with a $50,000 grant that allowed us to establish three Head Start centers providing summer preschool services for approximately 60 children. Since then, MVCAA has grown significantly and now manages a budget of about $10.5 million covering 17 sites.
We are committed to making a difference in the lives of those we serve by offering a wide range of programs and services aimed at addressing the root causes of poverty. From early childhood education and family support services to housing assistance and workforce development initiatives, MVCAA is dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.
As we continue our work toward eradicating poverty, MVCAA remains focused on collaboration, innovation, and accountability. We strive to be a leader in our community and beyond by advocating for policies that promote economic opportunity and social equity.
