With an impressive background in public service, Representative McGaugh's journey began with nearly six four-year terms as the Carroll County Clerk. Her deep understanding of local governance and commitment to the democratic process was further emphasized during her tenure as the Treasurer of the Missouri Association of County Clerks and Election Authorities. In 2009, she held the prestigious position of President of the Missouri Association of Counties, advocating for the interests of County elected officials across the state. Currently, Representative McGaugh also serves as the Vice President of the Missouri Public Entities Labor Relations Association, showcasing her commitment to fostering positive labor relations within the public sector.
In February of 2018, Representative McGaugh transitioned to state-level politics through a special election, succeeding her son, Judge Joe Don McGaugh, in the Missouri House District 7. Her decision to move from county to state government was motivated by a desire to champion free and fair elections. As a former member of the Secretary of State’s voter integrity task force, Representative McGaugh has consistently advocated for the integrity of the electoral process. Beyond this, her legislative priorities include spearheading economic development initiatives for rural communities and working towards increased job opportunities in those areas.
