CHAMBER BUCKS GUIDELINES

One of the many member benefits the Carroll Chamber of Commerce offers is its Chamber Bucks program. The purchase and use of Chamber Bucks ensures that dollars are being spent locally.
Here’s a few program details:
  • Chamber Bucks come in denominations of $5, $10, $15, $20 and $25.
  • Chamber Bucks work just like cash at member businesses.
  • Chamber Bucks expire after six months. An expiration date is located on the front of the Chamber Bucks.
  • If you bank locally, you may deposit Chamber Bucks with your checks.
  • If the customer makes a purchase for less than the amount, it is the business’s choice to either give cash back or store credit. Do not give the customer back the Chamber Bucks.
The Chamber’s goal is to make the Chamber Bucks program easy to use for everyone involved. A small Chamber Bucks Guidelines card can be placed at your register to serve as a quick reference for employees. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 712-792-4383.
Click here for guidelines to put next to the register or stop by the Chamber for a copy.

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

It amazes me every year how quickly the summer goes by.  I imagine for the kids in school, it went by even faster.  It certainly did for my children.

Of course late July and early August was Back to School time for many retailers.  Over the last few weeks I have stopped at some retail businesses to gauge how the Back to School shopping season went.  As is usually the case, it was a mixed bag of answers, but the overall consensus was it was good.

As I continue to work as hard as I can to keep retail momentum (and build more) with our retail members, it is obvious that the retail environment has changed rapidly over the last few years.  One consistent conversation I seem to have with our retail partners is the affect of online shopping and other external impacts on local business.

I certainly saw this first hand with my time in retail.  There are many ways to try to combat this shift from buyers.  One of the best solutions I found is to focus on what we do best.  Instead of spending time trying to beat those external impacts on their own terms, let’s combat them on ours.  Find your niche and kill it.  If we try to be a business for everyone, all the time, for everything, it becomes too easy to lose sight of the things that make us better than those external factors.

If we desire to have our citizens shop with us, we must provide them with a unique offering that only we can provide.  For some that may be service, for others price, for yet others product.  Whatever it is, find your niche and make it yours. With that attitude, we will continue to see our businesses grow, despite a sometimes difficult environment.
As always #ChooseCarroll
