Shopping Local On-Line

Yes!  You will soon be able to support your favorite local store with on-line purchases!  Although our prices won't compare to Amazon's, our business owners and their employees shop at local stores, eat at local restaurants, donate to local causes, sponsor local youth leagues, buy raffle tickets, and volunteer in our community.

This means so much more to our community than saving a few dollars on Amazon.

The Chamber is piloting a project loosely termed SHOP ALMANOR for our members.  When completed SHOP ALMANOR will give our visitors and second home owners the ability to purchase from their favorite local stores and restaurants after they have returned home.  Stay tuned for more information as we roll this out.

Redefining Community

Susan Bryner, Chamber President

There is little need to discuss here the impact of the Covid-19 shut down on our community. It is evident in the empty streets, closed businesses, and increasing appearance of facemasks.

The people and businesses of our community are facing the unknown of a suddenly disrupted lifestyle, the fear of illness, a negative impact on our 2020 tourist season, a host of small businesses that might not be able to recover, lost jobs, and the reaction to our first corona virus case in Chester.

What I would like to focus on here is how this crisis has spurred an incredible surgence of spirit, faith, ingenuity and commitment to something outside of and larger than ourselves. You will see within the articles of this Newsletter and others to follow the efforts and innovative services and programs being set forth to assist our community both during and in the days that will follow this virus and shut down.

Just as our parents and grand-parents’ generation emerged from the Great Depression and WWII changed forever. So, shall we. We will emerge. But how will we be changed? I think

Mountain Volunteer Project Steps Up During COVID-19 Crisis

The Mountain Volunteer Project (MVP) is a new volunteer organization, initiated with the support of the Lake Almanor Area Chamber of Commerce and based out of Chester, CA.  MVP was working toward a slow, 6 month roll-out when the Covid-19 crisis hit our communities. With just a handful of volunteers, MVP ramped up to meet the needs arising from the crisis and now has 3 services rolled out and supported by a 7 day/week phone line.

MVP now boasts a crew of 16 volunteers, with more signing up each day.  If you are interested in sharing your unique talents with our growing team, go to MTVP.org and sign up!  A volunteer recruiter will reach out and connect with you.

Creating a community where it is easy to Reach Out, Connect, & Take Part.

Mountain Volunteer Project services are free to all those in need.  Donations are always accepted so that we can make sure our volunteers have the resources they need to serve.

Almanor Basin Food Pantry Needs Our Help

The Almanor Basin Food Pantry, a local 501c3 non-profit organization, is deemed an essential service during the Covid-19 crisis.  The good volunteers of the Food Pantry are working hard to safely provide food security to those in our community who need help.

Please consider making a tax deductible cash donation to them by mailing a check to Almanor Food Pantry 386 Main St, Chester 96020, through the Almanor Basin Food Pantry Facebook Page, or directly through PayPal using their email address, AlmanorFoodPantry@hotmail.com.

Even the smallest donation will go far in helping accomplish their mission to combat food insecurities in and around the basin.

St. Andrews Academy Boarding Program

Father Brian Foos

"These times of Covid-19 and social isolation are certainly anxious times. Few of us, perhaps none, have lived through anything similar. We at St. Andrew’s don’t want any more anxiety, and don’t want to add to this anxiety for anyone else; we want to inform our community how we as a school are following the Public Health Guidelines for social distancing.  A few questions have come from those that are unaware of St. Andrew’s status as a boarding school; in addition to day students, St. Andrew’s has a boarding program. Boarding students live,

Our Community received wonderful support from new owners of the Timber House! Almendra Winery and Distillery has been producing hand sanitizer to supplement community needs across the valley at their cost. As new owners of the Timber House in Chester they reached out to us to offer some cases for our essential operations at Lake Almanor. We thank Berton and Carol Bertagna and Robert and Toni Vanella for taking part in our community and wish them well both at Almendra and with their new endeavor in Chester.

Tim O'Brien and side-kick Nelson were pleased to be able to deliver bottles Almendra Sanitizer to Seneca Hospital, our Fire Departments, CHP, Food Pantry, Holiday Market and restaurants in need. https://www.almendrawinery.com/
