What an Amazing Community!

Local community members came up with a unique way to celebrate and honor our CHS 2020 seniors and all their accomplishments!

Stephanie Preston & Maria Maumoynier created a Facebook group Adopt a Chester High School Senior and had parents post a short bio about their student.  Community members were then able to adopt a senior and deliver gifts to their adopted senior such as gift certificates, 2020 items, t-shirts, mugs and more. Within a week of this group being created every senior was adopted!

"This is set up to bring some joy to these kids who are missing out on all they’ve worked so hard for. They are an amazing group of kids and Maria and I just wanted to show them that Chester/Lake Almanor stands with them during this tough time." ~ Stephanie Preston

Thank you Stephanie and Maria for your kind hearts and for helping create an opportunity for our community to rally behind our youth and show our support!

Mountain Volunteer Project Services

Dear Community Members
We have been pleased to assist our community these past 6 weeks with shopping needs and prescription pick-up at Holiday Market.  As our community has moved into Phase 2, the demand for the shopping services has declined while many of our community volunteers have been called back to work.  Due to these changes we need to modify the shopping assistance to the following schedule and services.

Grocery Pick-up – Wednesdays Only -
Shopping Assistance by appointment or emailed list only.
Email or call-in your list by 4 pm Tuesday.  info@mtvp.org or call it in to 264-5064
Pickup groceries between 10 and 11 am each Wednesday.
Credit Card or Check accepted.

We understand this is late notice.  If you have a list that you need by tomorrow, Wednesday 5/20, please send it now.  We will accept them a bit later today.

Sincerely,
Your Volunteers at the Mountain Volunteer Project

4th of July Plans...

July 4th 2020 will be the 100th parade for the Lake Almanor Area!

We love our town and the patriotic spirit that is displayed during the 4th of July Holiday. With considerations to current restrictions in place due to COVID-19 we are changing things up a bit.

We would like to work with the local businesses and community in hosting a”reverse/drive through parade” for the entire Lake Almanor Area Basin.  Our idea is that the area becomes the “parade” itself, where local businesses and community members decorate either a storefront, float or both. We would invite every business, group or person to participate and get creative with how you show your patriotism. We would like to place floats throughout the area for those that do not have a typical storefront and encourage businesses from around the lake to join us. We would then create a map that has locations marked for people to check out all the floats/decorations. Since the 4th is on a Saturday this year, we would have the “reverse parade” go Friday-Sunday.

Phase 2 Businesses Open!

Lets support our local businesses now more than ever as they re-open!

Plumas Co. Public Health had created and  recommended displaying these optional signs regarding customer conduct and face coverings! These signs are completely optional and intended to be an additional resource for businesses to use. They can also be found on the Public Health website by clicking here.

ARPD EVENTS

The Almanor Recreation and Park District (ARPD) announces the following changes to its 2020 event program:

Some Tough Decisions! Our summer events are the primary fund raisers for our District, but due to our concern for the health and safety of our loyal event participants, and to comply with State and County requirements regarding Covid-19, our Board is taking the following steps:
  •  Judo & Jujitsu in Chester, CANCELED until further notice
  •  Mile High 100 Cycle Ride, POSTPONED to September 5, 2020
  •  4th of July Chester Fun Run, CANCELED

 Some Easier Decisions!
  •  Lake Almanor Poker Paddle, Still Planned for July 25, 2020
  • ARPD Fall Youth Soccer Program is now open for online registration AND REGISTRATION IS FREE; but of course, actual play is dependent on State and County guidelines. Practice will begin in August and play will begin in September. All children ages 4-15 are invited. For parents wanting to register their children, please go to www.yourARPD.org to fill out an on-line form. If community members are able to make a donation to the ARPD Soccer program, we would be humbled and be incredibly appreciative. If you consider donating, please know that your donation will stay IN the Soccer Program to support our local youth. To make a donation to the ARPD Soccer Program, mail it to ARPD, P.O. Box 325, Chester, CA 96020 OR drop off a check at the office at 101 Meadowbrook Loop.

Chester Little League Update

To our Chester Little League Community,

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic we regret to inform you that we have made the tough decision to cancel the Chester Little League season. We waited this out as long as we could and explored all possibilities to make a season happen, but we have simply run out of time. The risks simply don’t exceed the reward and playing youth sports right now would be contrary to local and state guidelines. We know, now more than ever, that the joy, comradery, and competition that Little League provides is so badly needed. All other Little Leagues in our district have also canceled their seasons. Our dedicated board, coaches, and other volunteers had put in an incredible amount of time to make this season a success. Uniforms were all ordered, teams had been drafted, and we were very much looking forward to the season.

This cancelation presents certain hardships on our small budget league and we know that this pandemic has created great financial strain on so many of you. Even though we had already invested a significant portion of registration fees, this year we are committed to providing refunds or credits to all our participants. We have three options for you to consider in handling your 2020 registration fees. The simplest would be give you a credit for next year. We will be able, through our online vendor, to track all of this and register your child for next year. The second option is to refund you directly back to the payment method you used online. The service fees would not be refunded ($5). The third option is to convert your registration fee into a donation to our League to help support the Chester Little League through this difficult time. Please respond to our player agent Cheyne Gerbatz (goodtimebaseball@gmail.com) with how you would like us to handle your fees preferably in the next month. Also please feel free to reach out to our league president, Ryan Burnett (rburnett@pointblue.org), with any questions or concerns.

Wishing you and your kids all the best,

Lake Almanor Fitness Center

Garn Pringle

The Lake Almanor Fitness Center management would like to thank all our members for their continued support during these unusual times.  As you are aware, due to local and state government requirements “to shelter in place”, our facility has been closed since March 19, 2020.  During this time and with the anticipation of Garn Pringle’s retirement, we have been involved in negotiations with a local family to purchase the gym.  We would like to reassure members that they do plan to re-open once new guidelines are in place for the safety of our members and Plumas County allows fitness centers like ours to begin operation.  Once LAFC re-opens, all outstanding paid membership prior to our closure will be honored and everyone will be welcome back.  Thanks again for your patience and understanding.
