Lake Almanor and #GivingTuesday

Susan Bryner, Chamber President

December 1, 2020 is GivingTuesday a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world.  GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe.

Envision the Community You Want to Live In.

The Lake Almanor Area Chamber of Commerce has redefined the old role of Chambers to become the catalyst that is moving our community forward, setting us on the cusp of
new opportunities for building the community we want to live in. Our programs and plans for economic development and community services are innovative and ambitious, and can only happen with the engagement of the whole community.

Consider This Thought.

If there were no limitations, what changes would I implement in our community starting today?

Now, Stand With Us. Take Part.

We can make the changes we want to see when everyone who cares gives of their time, their money, or their talent.

Sharing Gratitude

Susan Bryner, Chamber President

In the midst of uncertainty, recognizing the things we are thankful for can be game-changing. Taking the time to express gratitude helps us nurture social connections, manage anxiety, and build resilience - all amazing ways to enhance our well-being.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, then, I'm sharing a few Gratitude articles that come from my work as a life coach.

Merchants Night 2020

This Friday the Merchants of Chester invite you to enjoy an evening of cheer and shopping from 5 - 8 pm. Let's enjoy while being safe and gracious!  Masks are required inside. Our merchant's capacity for inside guests will be monitored by them, so please help them out. Outside social distancing is requested.

Local Cider Debuts on Merchants Night

Proud of our locals, the folks at Stover Landing Commons will present tastings of Sincere Cider on Merchants Night. Join us by the fire, and find yourself Sincere. 278 Main St.

What is Sincere Cider?

Sincere Cider is a true expression of the crisp, clean flavors of contemporary cider craft. Made in California with a special blend of culinary apples and French wine yeast, Sincere Cider is fermented until dry, then back-sweetened with just a touch of fresh-pressed apple juice

Who is the local?

Bex Pezullo is a new resident on Lake Almanor's East Shore. What started as a passion-fueled hobby out of her Oakland garage soon grew into a professional cider craft operation—one rooted in heritage and home. Sincere’s unique blend of organic culinary apples come from Washington’s Yakima Valley where Bex’s mother grew up; cider is cultivated and canned at a Napa-based winery; and in a serendipitous twist of fate, alcohol licensing was approved on the day Bex’s father, Steve Pezullo, retired from a 40-year CPA practice in Susanville (he now puts his skills to use for Sincere).

Healthy Tips to Take-On Holiday Indulgence

Kelly O'Brien ~ Lake Almanor Fitness Center

We all know the holidays can play havoc on healthy eating but no need to stress.  Here are some food-for-thought strategies to help:

  1. Schedule your exercise: It will be hectic this holiday season. Schedule your workouts just as you would any other appointment.  Make sure that you get some activity in at least three days per week.
  2. Just Say No: You probably aren't aware how much extra food you consume just from people offering it to you. A sample at the market here, an extra cookie there, all adds up. Just think twice before you take that food and decide if you really want it.
  3. Skip the Baking: Do you make baked goods for giving? Chances are you “taste” what you bake. Who wouldn't? Instead, why not choose gifts that do not include food?
  4. Hydrate: Keep your water bottle with you at all times. You should be drinking eight, 8-oz glasses of water each day. One handy trick is to buy a 64-ounce water jug. Fill it up in the morning and know that you need to finish it by the end of the day.
  5. Choose Your Groceries Wisely: It is more important than ever to stock your kitchen with healthy foods. You are more likely to eat them, instead of choosing holiday sweets.

With that said, stay healthy and enjoy your holidays.
Kelly O’Brien, Lake Almanor Fitness Center

Could Chester Become a Christmas Town?

Chester Merchants are stepping it up!  Could we be on our way to becoming the best little town in Northern California to visit during the holidays? Maybe so!

Put yourself on the Christmas Map!

To help our visitors and community find this year's best decorations, the Chamber will create a map of "Chester's Must See Decorations".  Homeowners or Business Owners, send us a photo of your place decorated to the nines and we will put you on the map for "auto touring" during the holidays.

Submit your photo and address to info@lakealmanorarea.com.  The map will debut the first week in December and we will continue to add to it until Christmas.

Almanor Fishing Report

John Crotty

If you enjoy these reports, fish Lake Almanor, are a business/resident of Plumas County please consider joining the Almanor Fishing Association. We are set to begin our 2021 membership drive and could use your support. AFA has the longest running most successful fish pen program in the state. We currently have 60,000 fish (50,000 rainbows, 10,000 Browns) in our pens and our dedicated volunteers are feeding 80 lb’s of food a day regardless of the weather. You can join online @ Almanorfishingassociation.org or by check to: Almanor Fishing Association PO BOX 1938, Chester Ca. 96020.

11/22/20
Our first significant storm of the season dropped over two inches of snow/rain mix; the snow is all but gone at lake level. Snow remains at higher elevations and Lassen has a good base of snow for the first time in months. With most of the rain soaking into our parched ground, creeks and streams saw little impact from the rain, lake level rose ever so slightly to 4477.76’. Clarity remains unchanged at 5-8’. Numerous navigational hazards continue to exist and you need to exercise caution while motoring.

Fishing remains good with quality fish caught throughout the lake. Slow trolling gulps and Arctic Fox Trolling flies produced fish along the west side of the Peninsula with 10-15’ the preferred depth worked for us this past week. Hardware will also produce fish, when fast trolling always have at least one red/gold on. I also like red dot frog, cop car, smelt and brown trout patterns. The fish have moved out of the shallow areas into the deeper water as have the large schools of pond smelt. Fish have migrated to the south end of the lake as well as is typical for this time of year. The bite in the coves around the dam has been inconsistent and we have not seen many mature fish yet. We have seen an increase in bank and fly fishermen with the fly guys out producing the bank fishermen. Hamilton Branch remains your best shot at shore fishing at the moment.

We are expecting clear sunny skies over the next week with morning temps around the twenty degree mark and daytime highs in the high forty’s. Temps drop quickly when the sun goes down.
