Ayoob's will celebrate its 75th Anniversary on June 11, 2021 from 10 am -2 pm. A customer appreciation lunch will be served up from 11 am -1 pm. Stop in. Say hello. Celebrate. Take a look at the in-store specials and promotions, have some good food and enjoy the fabulous mural just completed on the north side of the building.
Ayoob’s Department Store in Chester was one of four Ayoob stores in Plumas County, a dynasty begun by Mike Ayoob, Sr. The Chester store was built by Ed Neuman and wife Helen Ayoob Neuman in 1946. After its celebrated grand opening on October 25, 1946, the store provided many necessities for Chester residents over the years, from clothing and gifts, to appliances, building supplies, and furniture ( excepted from Chester History Tour, Marilyn Quadrio).
The building and store are now proudly owned and operated by the Newell Family who purchased it in 2014 renaming it, Ayoob’s Intermountain Hardware. Ayoob's of today continues to provided provide many necessities for area residents, such as clothing and souvenir gifts to hardware and sporting goods. The Newell Family pride themselves on great customer service as well as “having a little bit of everything”. Their hope is to continue the legacy of Ayoob’s by making it everyone’s favorite place to shop small while creating their own legacy for future generations of Newells.

Weather, Lake Almanor & Fishing Report
John Crotty, Almanor Fishing Association 6/6/201
Lake level has peaked at 4483’ we will begin seeing a drop in water level soon. This past week’s 90+ degree weather raised water temps into the 70’s. We will see a cooling trend this week with day time highs in the low 60’s and overnight lows in the thirty’s. We are also scheduled to receive winds early in the week. Clarity is hovering between 10-15 feet.
The Hex hatch has begun with small hatches taking place around the dam and along the West Shore it will be a few days before we see prolific hatches and it will take some time for the fish to key in on the hatches as well, the hatch and bite will only improve from here.
The bite remains tough for trollers as fish continue to feast on insects. There continues to be no rhyme or reason to the fish caught, you have an equal chance of catching fish trolling fast, slow or anything in between. Hamilton Branch remains your best shot from shore. There has been lots of pressure around Red Bank, that water is between 20-30’ deep and catching has been sporadic at best. Bass fishermen are picking up quality smallies shallow early moving into deeper water as the sun comes up. Boats are beginning to search for fish throughout the lake with Big Springs, A-Frame, Peninsula and the East Shore seeing some pressure.
Traffic has picked up at both USFS boat ramps and the ramps get busy late morning and early afternoon. Most of our campgrounds with some operating at half capacity. Call ahead to insure availability.

Seneca Healthcare District Receives Donation from Seneca Hospital Auxiliary
Chelssa Outland
Seneca Healthcare District (SHD) is grateful to all the loyal volunteers from Seneca Hospital Auxiliary. These volunteers provide non-medical volunteer services to our patients, families, hospital staff, and community, as well as philanthropic contributions to Seneca and the surrounding community.
The Seneca Hospital Auxiliary is a nonprofit made up of dedicated volunteers who give their time and financial resources to help others. The organization’s members are an integral part of the Seneca team of professionals. Members of the Hospital Auxiliary raise funds for the purchase of new medical equipment needed to improve the quality of care, funding of scholarships for students entering the health care field, and other health and wellness needs within the community.
On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Seneca Hospital Auxiliary awarded Seneca 42,000 dollars for the purchase of new hospital equipment.
This year, Seneca Hospital Auxiliary donated the following to the hospital and the community:
• $42,000 Hospital Equipment
• $3,000 Seneca Long Term Care Activities Fund
• $4,500 Scholarships
• $325 Community Supper
In addition to their monetary support, they host two Blood Drives each year; assist with the Flu and Wellness Clinics; volunteer inside the hospital where needed; host an Annual Game Day; and help serve at a Community Supper.
