Bass Tourney is Back at lake Almanor

The Wild West Apex Pro Tour is returning to Lake Almanor on May 11 to 13 with 50 elite anglers are seeking the title. The first tour held in Plumas County was in April of 2021 where the finalists were greeted with a snow storm on the last day of competition. We are glad that did not keep the competitors and tournament organizers from coming back.

The glittered and “tricked-out” bass boats will be coming into Chester the afternoon of May 10. A meet and greet will be held at Plumas Pines from 4:30 to 6:00pm to give fishing enthusiast an opportunity to talk to the anglers and check out the boats.

The tournament will be a three-day competition with boats leaving the Plumas Pine dock at 6:30am and returning by 3:00pm. Competition includes biggest and most fish caught each day, which will narrow down to 10 finalists competing on Saturday.

Please attend the daily weigh-ins, cheer on your favorite anglers and support them and this event as they compete for the title. This is a well-followed, televised event so smile for the camera!

The Almanor Foundation Celebrates Volunteer Month

Susan Bryner, The Almanor Foundation

Giving back, being neighborly, supporting your community - no matter how it is described, volunteerism is our humanity.

Volunteering: A Way of Life

April is National Volunteer Month.  We interviewed The Almanor Foundation, Chair, Judy Chynoweth and Treasurer, Julie Childers about their thoughts on volunteering. Both were inspired to volunteer as part of their upbringing. “It was one of the values we were raised with. I tagged along with my mom when she volunteered and was given different tasks to do,” says Childers. For Judy, “Both my parents were volunteers. Whether for Rotary or leading a girl scout troop, they were always doing something in the community and doing for others.” These values became a way of life.

View the Interview with Judy and Julie on YouTube

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering for Julie and Judy is a responsibility and a joy.  Volunteering "gets me out of thinking about myself...it gives me a sense of gratitude..." says Julie. "I gain more than I give." says Judy. As Julie described it, “You can either be in the stands watching or out on the field playing the game. I like being in the game.”

Discover the Rewards of Volunteering

Share your time or talents. Become a member of the team at The Almanor Foundation. Take this simple volunteer interest survey. Filling out the survey does not commit you to involvement. If you desire, your submission will be followed by a friendly chat with one of our Foundation volunteers. We will share more about us and learn more about you and your desire to serve.

Organization Upgrades that “Spark Joy” for Buyers

This week we bring you more on “Tidying Up” to minimize our possessions and keep only those items that “spark joy.” Inspired by Marie Kondo from the Netflix series “Tidying Up”.

Customize Your Closets

Cleaning out the closet is a chore most of us dread, but by now, you’re a pro! Get rid the clothes and shoes that don’t fit you, are uncomfortable to wear, or that no longer “spark joy.”

Then it’s organizing time. So where do you start? You’ll want to create a designated space for each type of clothing: high hanging rods for dresses and long jackets, lower rods for skirts and shirts, and shelves for folded items like jeans. And accessories need a place to go, too. Add racks for your shoes, drawers for jewelry, hooks for hats, and shelves or racks for handbags.

A well-equipped closet can be a major draw for buyers—the average return on a closet remodel is 57%.  But more importantly, it’ll improve your day-to-day life. Surveyed homeowners gave their closet remodel a “Joy Score” of 10 out of 10, higher than kitchen or bath upgrades.

Spring Into Action

If you’re searching for service providers to help with your spring cleaning or home organization efforts, let us know! We can connect you with our trusted network of local home improvement professionals. We can also help you determine which organizational upgrades will add the most value to your home. Call one of our Coldwell Banker agents today and get started.

Seneca Updates Electronic Health Record System

Date: 04/24/23
By: Shawn McKenzie

Over the past 9 months, many Seneca staff have been working on building our new Electronic Health Record (EHR), Cerner Community Works (Cerner). The EHR acts as our main system for patient care, medical records, regulatory reporting, and billing. To say the least, transitioning to a new EHR is one of the largest and most comprehensive projects that any health system can undertake. It is a system that will be with Seneca for years to come so ensuring that it is properly developed to enhance our services and capabilities is a heavy lift.

We are scheduled to go-live on the new system on Monday, June 5th. Prior to this date, we will be conducting training for those members of our staff that will be interacting with the EHR in the daily course of their work. Most staff will have some exposure to the system and our goal is to provide as much training as possible prior to go-live. Cerner will completely replace the CSPI Evident system as our patient medical and financial accounting record. While CPSI will remain in the backdrop for access to historical patient data, we will NOT be using it in our day-to-day operations.

These past few months have been hectic, and I want to thank all those involved in this effort for doing an amazing job of balancing existing work with the need to spend time developing and testing the Cerner EHR.

Keep in mind that transitioning to a new EHR is like buying and jumping into a new car… they all have windshield wipers, lights, cruise control and such… They just may be in a different spot. Once you drive the new car for a while, it becomes second nature. You will find that by the end of May, working in Cerner will become muscle memory and a natural part of your workflow. Hang in there everyone, let us all open our minds to a new system and workflow as we meet this major milestone in Seneca’s journey to the future.

We are almost there!

Almanor Fishing Report

John Crotty

4//23/2023
Spring has finally arrived in Plumas County, snow is melting, creeks are running, lake level is rising, and water temperatures are approaching fifty degrees. We are also seeing insects hatching, for the first time this year. Sixty-degree temperatures are the new norm, and the scenery is spectacular with all our snow-covered mountains.
There is still snow at lake level, lots of snow along the west shore. Bailey Creek, Hamilton Branch, the North Fork of the Feather and the Super Ditch are all flowing strong. With all the water coming into Almanor we are seeing a slow steady increase in lake level.

Boat activity has increased significantly this past week and there have been several bass tournaments on the weekends. Canyon Dam remains the only available public ramp.
Trollers are picking up a mix of bows and browns, you will need to weed through smaller fish before you find quality. Fish remain scattered throughout the lake, with smaller fish higher in the water column. We caught fish fast and slow trolling along the East Shore, at the dam, Big Cove to the Peninsula, the West Shore and from Prattville to Almanor West this past week. Pick your preferred method and be patient, covering ground is key to success. Red/Gold, Perch, Brown Trout and Red Dot frog speedy shiners and Rapala’s, at 2.5 mph and crawlers & plastics at one mph all worked for us.

Fishing conditions are tough at the branch at best, shore anglers are targeting their efforts around the dam. The Super Ditch where it enters the lake is also an option.
