Burning Permits Required May 1st
Effective Monday, May 1, the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Lassen-Modoc Unit will require dooryard burning permits for residential burning within Lassen, Modoc and Plumas counties. Burn Permits are available online only at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov.
Property owners can access this website to obtain a burn permit, free of charge, by watching a short educational video and submitting an application. Permits must be printed, signed, and on hand while burning or immediately available for inspection upon request in an electronic format. The information contained on the permit states the terms the permittee is required to abide by to help ensure a safe debris burn while minimizing the chance for fire escapes. Permits are valid from May 1 of the current year through April 30 of the following year.
Burning can only be done on permissive burn days and within permissive burn hours as determined by the local Air Pollution Control District. To find out if it is a permissive burn day or if burning is limited to specific hours, contact your local Air Pollution Control District).

Bass Tourney is Back at lake Almanor

The Wild West Apex Pro Tour is returning to Lake Almanor on May 11 to 13 with 50 elite anglers are seeking the title. The first tour held in Plumas County was in April of 2021 where the finalists were greeted with a snow storm on the last day of competition. We are glad that did not keep the competitors and tournament organizers from coming back.
The glittered and “tricked-out” bass boats will be coming into Chester the afternoon of May 10. A meet and greet will be held at Plumas Pines from 4:30 to 6:00pm to give fishing enthusiast an opportunity to talk to the anglers and check out the boats.
The tournament will be a three-day competition with boats leaving the Plumas Pine dock at 6:30am and returning by 3:00pm. Competition includes biggest and most fish caught each day, which will narrow down to 10 finalists competing on Saturday.
Please attend the daily weigh-ins, cheer on your favorite anglers and support them and this event as they compete for the title. This is a well-followed, televised event so smile for the camera!

Thinking of Selling?
Coldwell Banker Kehr/O'Brien How to Price Your Home to Sell
In real estate, knowledge is power, and a Coldwell Banker Kehr/O’Brien agent will act as your local-market expert. By sharing current market data, trends and a comparative market analysis (CMA), we help you make the most informed decision about your home’s market value and ideal asking price.
Factors That Impact Your Home’s Value:
-
Market Conditions: the current supply (or inventory) of homes for sale, buyer demand, interest rates and availability of financing, prices of recently sold properties, economic factors and seasonal demand
-
Your Home’s Condition: location, age, size of the home and lot, floor plan and architectural style
-
The Competition: the number of similar properties for sale and their prices, condition, location and financing terms
Factors That Do Not Impact Your Home’s Value:
-
Original Price: what you paid for your house
-
Needed Proceeds: the net cash proceeds you want or need
-
Opinions: what friends, neighbors and Zillow say your home is worth
Pricing it Right. First Impressions Count.

The largest number of potential buyers will view a newly listed home within the first 14 days on the market, and the number will decrease as the days on the market increases. This pool of buyers includes home buyers just entering the market and, more importantly, buyers working with Realtors® who have already seen the existing inventory and have not found a home, making them eager to make an offer. To take advantage of this increased level of traffic and buyer interest, your property should be priced to sell at fair market value from the very start.
How To Start?

Plumas County to Hold Job Fair May 20
PlumasNews.com Submitted by Plumas County to PlumasNews.com
It’s not a secret that the job market has been a challenge for several years. Plumas County has been no exception. Even more interesting is the struggle our local government has had filling positions. For decades, a job with the County of Plumas meant good reliable pay, exceptional benefits, opportunity for growth, security, and the chance to be of service to fellow citizens. The truth is; nothing is different. All those attributes of a County job still apply. Plus, the variety of positions offers exciting new pathways. Over 20 departments provide services to the public, with a large number of positions in each department to accomplish that mission. The leaders of those county departments want to tell you about those many positions; what they do, why it is exciting, what is the compensation, opportunities for advancement and how soon you can start. They’ve made it easier than ever before.
On Saturday, May 20, a job fair will be held at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Most of the County Departments will be there to show you what they have to offer, and you can do the same for them. From financial services to law enforcement, health care to maintenance, there are a dizzying variety of jobs available right now. There will be workshops throughout the event explaining what it’s like to work for Plumas County. You will have the chance to talk to actual employees of these departments and get their take on open jobs. They can talk about qualifications, work requirements, and work schedules. You can complete and submit an application with a better understanding of what kind of job you may be seeking.
Plumas County needs caring, hard working individuals that are willing to do an exceptional job for their friends and neighbors. The job market is showing signs of tightening up, so now is the time to join a team that needs you and offers stability. Plan on visiting the fairgrounds this May 20.

Almanor Fishing Report
John Crotty 4//30/2023
After a week of beautiful, warm, summer-like conditions, Plumas County will see cooler wet weather over the next seven days, with chances of snow early in the week. Overnight lows will be in the low thirties and daytime highs in the low fifties, as is typical for this time of year we will also see afternoon winds.
Snow is melting fast as Bailey Creek, the Super Ditch, Hamilton Branch, the North Fork of the Feather, and every little tributary entering Almanor is depositing large volumes of dirty water. Lake level has risen a foot and a half this past week, currently sitting at 4486.16 Inflows into Almanor have almost tripled over the past week, rising from 3,461 (acre feet) last Saturday to 9,302 (acre feet) this Saturday. To put some perspective on our snowpack and the amount of water entering Almanor an acre foot is 325,850 gallons of water, the 9,302 (AF) increase on Saturday equates to 3,031,056,706 gallons of water added to Almanor in a single day (my freshman math teacher would be proud).
Fishing was good early in the week as insects are hatching and water temperatures are rising. Fish are scattered and we continue to catch more browns than rainbows, there are a bunch of one-to-two-pound browns, and they are hungry. Fast, slow, hardware, flies and baits will all work, it’s all about covering ground to find fish. Fish are scattered throughout the water column as well, fish in the top twenty feet early and drop deeper as the sun gets on the water.
Shore anglers are battling the rush of incoming water, as the Super Ditch and Hamilton Branch clear and flows slow, fishing will improve. There were some people fishing off the causeway this past week not sure how they did. The coves around Canyon Dam are your best shot at catching fish from shore. The bass bite has picked up and should only get better, there are tournaments every weekend and the Canyon Dam ramp can get busy on weekends.
Highway 70 remains closed, there is construction work on 32 with minimal delays and 36 is clear. All our campgrounds remain closed, and Canyon Dam is the only usable public ramp.
