Job Description for Opposing Forces (OPFOR) Technician:
Performs opposing forces (OPFOR) tasks in support of Kirtland AFB contract, frequently at night. Tasks include placement and operation of electronic threat radar devices, rockets, and artillery simulators along aircraft low level routes, off prepared surfaces; acting as a distressed combat team in need of air support by using a variety of signal devices including radios and pyrotechnics. Performs surrogate ground force tasks, driving HMMWV, ATV and other vehicles supporting all phases of rescue and special operations aircrew training. Coordinates support with flying units’ scheduling sections and aircrew. May conduct airdrop zone control and aerial delivery support as drop zone control officer or drop zone safety officer. May provide first aid to self and colleagues according to certification level. Inspects and drives K-Loaders, 10K All-Terrain forklifts and warehouse forklifts in close proximity to aircraft in coordination with spotters for loadmaster student training. Works in close coordination with contract and active duty loadmaster instructors to ensure loadmaster training objectives are met. Plans and prepares for loadmaster lesson support by reviewing a training schedule, participating in scheduling meetings, coordinating with other K & I Field Services employees, preparing loads, and positioning equipment to be fully prepared for the aircrew lesson at the scheduled time.
Required Proficiencies: (all of below are required to hire; may call hiring office for clarification)
• Customer and team communication—radio, verbal, and written
• Aviation combat tactics or ground combat arms
• Must be able to lift and carry 65-lb box to waist level on unprepared or uneven surfaces
• Must be able to maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
• Microsoft Office suite and email
• Good driving record; valid driver’s license
Preferred Experience: (none of these are necessary for hiring, but may be used to select from available candidates)
• Combat experience as infantry, special forces, CCT, PJ, SEAL, air assault, rescue or special operations
• HAZMAT CDL license (New Mexico) with HAZMAT endorsement
• Instructor experience in any field, most preferably in tactics or weapons
• Air Assault
• Aerial port, aerial delivery, rigger
• Current DoD background investigation for Secret clearance
• Current EMT-B/P certification in national registry
Hourly range $24.64-$29.75 total remuneration (FY22) depending upon experience and performance with planned annual increases.
