The New Mexico Office of the State Auditor is currently hiring a Senior Auditor to join the Special Investigations Division. The Special Investigations Division Senior Auditor offers an exciting opportunity to be a member of the Office of the State Auditor's Special Investigations Division. The Special Investigations Division works to aggressively root out fraud and public corruption, embracing stewardship to the taxpayers of New Mexico. The Special Investigations Division performs special audits and examinations in an effort to identify financial fraud, waste and abuse within governmental entities. Additionally the Senior Auditor conducts fact finding procedures to investigate, identify, audit, or otherwise document suspected acts of financial malfeasance, misuse, misappropriation and/or gross incompetence, compliance with applicable statutes, rules and regulations, and the use of public resources in accordance with professional standards.

Special Investigation Senior Auditors manage their assigned caseload and ensure fraud, waste, and abuse complaints are examined in a timely manner. They fully document each examination performed and complete subject matter referrals to government oversight agencies, law enforcement agencies, and external auditors as appropriate. Special Investigation Senior Auditors must be able to effectively communicate various details of their cases with Office of the State Auditor management, stake holders, law enforcement, constituents, witnesses and others as appropriate.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:
- Audit experience - Certified Public Accountant, and/or Certified Fraud Examiner a plus.
- Legal and/or white-collar/financial investigative experience.
- The ability to multi-task and accomplish projects simultaneously.
- The ability to successfully work in a team environment.
- Must be self motivated to learn and meet deadlines.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills

Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance and/or a related degree and at least eighteen (18) credit hours in accounting and two (2) years of experience conducting financial audits and attestation engagements of government agencies.
